Manager
organization focused on evaluation and implementation of behavioral
interventions in understudied countries and populations. Busara’s mission is to
work with researchers and organizations to advance and apply behavioral science
in pursuit of poverty alleviation. This involves the application of research
and rigorous methods to enable partners to improve program design, evaluate
existing programs, and optimize internal processes. To this end, Busara has
worked with a variety of organizations in an advisory capacity to apply
behavioral insights, build analytical models, and develop new products. In
addition, in its research center capacity, Busara operates a Nairobi-based lab
capable of implementing advanced experiments in psychology, behavioral
economics and other academic disciplines.
Manager will be responsible for coordinating and managing all the research
activities for projects, and liaising with the Nairobi office. The project
manager will be based Kampala, but will be expected to travel for approximately
30% of the duration of their work on the various projects.
Responsibilities:
- Manage field logistics, including
staffing, scheduling and data collection activities - Ensure all data quality protocols are
followed including data safety and storage(quality assurance) - Oversee and monitor the process of
locating respondents - Oversee field testing and piloting of any
survey instruments - Ensure timely completion of project tasks
- Maintenance of project documentation,
plans and reports - Assist in hiring and managing casual staff
as project need arises and managing day-to-day project accounting - Ensure legal compliance and maintain
appropriate legal paperwork eg Research permits and IRB requirements - Implement project guidelines governing
field staff who work remotely and locally - Train and manage field teams that conduct
household surveys - Develop a feedback program for field
activities and keep a project log - Under the guidance of the Senior Project
Manager, develop field visit schedules - Aid in preparation and review of data
collection/interview materials - Assist in the writing of weekly and
quarterly project reports - Assist in designing and overseeing
back-check surveys - Ensure the development and maintenance of
good relationships with the local community, staff and with the major
governmental institutions and local authorities - Other duties related to project
implementation and administrative tasks as needed
Experience:
- The ideal candidate should preferably hold
a Bachelor’s degree or college diploma in social sciences, economics,
development studies and/or business administration - At least two years’ project management
experience with extensive supervising, designing and implementing data
collection and/or field work activities and managing teams of field workers
is preferred. - A good working knowledge of project
management and administration - Past experience in managing electronic
data collection - Excellent oral and written communication
skills in English and at least 2 major Ugandan Languages preferred - Previous experience with data collection
through household surveys, academic tests, and exit interviews. - Experience in managing quantitative and
qualitative research - Advanced user of Microsoft Office Suite
(Excel, Word, Power-point) - Well organized detail-oriented, able to
prioritize and manage multiple tasks simultaneously and coordinating
efforts of different teams - Ability to work independently and as part
of a team.
