93.3KFM, 90.4 Dembe FM, Nation Couriers and the Monitor Business Directory.
an efficient and cost effective library system. To ensure that all Monitor
publications and useful sources of information are acquired, stored and easily
retrieved to meet company business objectives.
Responsibilities:
- The jobholder will make sure that all
editions of daily and weekly publications are available for references and
storage - Ensures all photographs, videos and audios
are archived in digital format. - Performs functions of accessioning,
cataloguing, classification, filing and shelving of useful publications. - Ensures that photocopy machine is working
at all times and that supervisors are informed when it is down. - Ensures that the library is open during
all working hours (until the final page is sent to pre-press) each day. - The incumbent coordinates with other desks
e.g. news, features, business, sports, opinions, politics and weekend. - Ensures that the library acquires relevant
titles in time e.g. bills, laws, books etc. - Attend editorial meetings whenever
required and contributes product development ideas. - Reviews the existing systems and
recommends ways and means of modernizing the library - Regularly monitors and supervises research
for background information including for multimedia platforms (i.e.
compile and store visualizations, infographics, video and audio clips)
that can be used to enhance quality and strength of content on all MPL
digital platforms. - Appraises staff performance, identifies
their training needs and recommends appropriate action to develop their
skills and potential
Experience:
- The applicant for the Monitor Publications
Limited Librarian job vacancy should hold a University Degree in Library
and Information Science from an accredited institution. - Diploma in Journalism and post graduate /
MSc. in Library and Information Science would be an added advantage - A minimum of five years’ experience in a
librarian role, preferably for a media company and proven experience in
meeting targets and managing people - Strong computer skills including the
ability to operate computerized library, spreadsheet, word-processing,
database and graphics development programs at a highly proficient level - Research skills, including ability to
conduct internet research - Excellent organizational skills
- Good analytical and problem solving skills
- Effective communication skills i.e.
verbal, presentation and listening - Time management skills
- Must possess cultural awareness and
sensitivity - Demonstrate sound work ethics
- High sense of initiative
- Self-motivated, innovative and creative
- Flexible and willing to accommodate
different tasks - Ability to meet deadlines
