About Us:
The Infectious Diseases Institute (IDI) is an international non-profit
organization which is a partnership of infectious diseases and public health
specialists. The overall objective of the IDI is to strengthen health systems
with strong emphasis on Infectious Diseases, through Research and Capacity
Development. IDI has five operational areas through which it works to achieve
its mission: Prevention, Care and Treatment; Training, Research and Laboratory
services (provided through a partnership with the Makerere University – John
Hopkins University Core Lab) and Outreach.
Job Summary: The Audit Assistant
performs audits in accordance with the audit work plan and any other
assignments by the supervisors.
Key Duties and
Responsibilities:  
  • Assist with establishing the objectives,
    scope, and methodology of the audit and developing audit programs
  • Conduct research to obtain background
    information for the audit.
  • Perform cash counts, physical inventories,
    or other audit procedures as needed to meet the audit objectives.
  • Keenly verify project asset registers and
    ensure that registers are current
  • Verify the physical performance of field
    activities
  • Create work papers to document the audit
    work performed and support the audit report.
  • Document audit results and highlight
    points for Supervisor’s attention
  • Develop audit recommendations to assist
    Management with improving operations and internal control systems.
  • Perform follow up procedures to assess the
    adequacy of Management’s implementation of the recommended actions.
  • Communicate the status of work to your
    Supervisor on a regular basis.
  • Perform any other duties as may be
    reasonably assigned.
Qualifications, Skills and
Experience: 
  • The ideal candidate should possess a
    Bachelor’s Degree from a reputable University preferably in Business
    Administration or Commerce (Accounting). Studying to gain a professional qualification
    such as ACCA, CIMA, CPA or ACA would be an added advantage.
  • One ear of experience in a reputable audit
    firm.
  • Knowledge of audit procedures and
    requirements
  • Knowledge of computerized accounting-
    preferably Navision.
  • Knowledge of donor accountability
    requirements
  • Ability to accurately compile data and
    analyze information
  • Ability to Use professional judgment and
    skepticism to conduct work.
  • Comprehend and interpret policies,
    procedures, laws, regulations and guidelines
  • Establish and maintain effective working
    relationships with co-workers and those you audit Work both independently
    and as a team member.
  • Operate standard office equipment and
    personal computers using spreadsheets and processing applications.
  • Perform trips to our project sites up country.
  • Effective report writing and verbal
    skills.
  • Good Interpersonal skills and team spirit
