Job Title:     Accounts/ Budget Officer

Uganda Martyrs University (UMU) is a faith-based private,
not-for-profit University, owned by the Episcopal Conference of Catholic
Bishops of Uganda. It is set to host the World Bank Center of Excellence in
Agro-ecology and livelihood Systems (ACALISE).
Key Duties and
Responsibilities:  
  • Administers and monitors the financial
    system in order to ensure that all sundry finances are maintained in an
    accurate and timely manner
  • Assists with preparation of the budget;
  • Implements financial policies and
    procedures;
  • Establishes and maintains cash controls;
  • Establishes, maintains and reconciles the
    general ledger;
  • Regularly monitors cash reserves and
    investments;
  • Prepares and reconciles bank statements;
  • Establishes and maintains supplier
    accounts;
  • Processes suppliers’ invoices;
  • Maintains the purchase order system;
  • Ensures data is entered into the
    accounting system;
  • Gives directive for payment on goods and
    services complying with due process;
  • Ensures transactions are properly recorded
    and entered into the computerized accounting system;
  • Prepares revenue/ income statements,
  • Prepares balance sheets,
  • Prepares monthly financial statements;
  • Prepares quarterly reports and reports on
    variances; Assists with the annual audit,
  • Follows directives from time to time from
    the PI and Chief Finance Officer
Qualifications, Skills and
Experience: 
  • The applicant for the Accounts/ Budget
    Officer job opportunity should hold a higher Degree in Accounting and
    Finance preferably with professional qualification in Accounting like
    ACCA/ CPA or Diploma in business related field.
  • At least two years of working experience
    in a relevant field in the INGO e.g. World Bank is an added advantage
  • Computer literacy i.e. experience in use
    of Microsoft office applications i.e. word, excel and professional
    accounting packages.
  • Ability and willingness to learn World
    Bank and Government Accounting Procedures
  • Very well organized and able to work under
    pressure
  • Excellent writing, reporting and
    interpersonal skills
