Ministry of Gender, the Ministry ensures that all Ugandans enjoy better

Sector (SDS), which promotes issues of social protection, gender equality,
equity, human rights, culture, decent work conditions, and empowerment for
different groups, such as women, children, unemployed youth, internally
displaced persons, older persons and persons with disabilities.
and Communications Officer will implement, monitor, and evaluate the Youth
Project’s (MoGLSD) advocacy interventions in line with the mission. The
incumbent will be responsible for building the capacity of the Youth Project of
the MoGLSD staff in advocacy, partnering and networking as per the identified
needs.
Responsibilities:
- Formulate an operational activity plan and
budget for advocacy and communications issues - Build strong alliances and networks with
public and private partner organizations for concerted advocacy efforts
and greater participation in policy dialogue - Actively participate in carrying out
advocacy campaigns on issues related to HIV care, treatment and
prevention, and other emerging priorities - Document and share experiences arising
from advocacy interventions with the supervisor and other key stakeholders
- Scan the social environment to identify
issues that may affect the Youth Project of the MoGLSD’s mission in
supported regions and develop advocacy related interventions - Develop fundable research proposals for
advocacy programs and carry out advocacy-oriented research that will
advance the vision of an HIV/AIDS free society - Plan advocacy initiatives such as surveys,
donor conferences and meetings necessary for advancing the advocacy agenda

Experience:
- The ideal candidate for the Global Health
Corps Advocacy and Communications Officer job vacancy should hold a
Bachelor’s degree in strategic planning, organizational development, or
related field - One year of experience in advocacy, public
relations and partnership management - Marketing skills and experience
- Excellent analytical and decision making
skills - Ability to work under pressure
- Computer literacy skills i.e. proficiency
in MS Office (Word, Excel, Access, and PowerPoint) - Proven English language writing and
editorial skills - Previous experience in communications or
advocacy - Keen interest in global public health
- Ability to work in a team environment but
with self-sufficiency and self-motivation - Strong interpersonal skills coupled with
excellent communication skills (verbal, written, listening, presentation
and facilitation) - Capacity to multi-task; flexible and
capable of working under pressure and tight deadlines with demonstrated
ability to prioritize across multiple projects and relationships
Fellows will be provided with housing, health insurance and a living stipend of
$550/month. Additionally, fellows will receive an award of $1500 upon
successful completion of the fellowship year. Flights to and from the placement
site and all other costs associated with GHC programming are included,
including $600 in professional development funds. Fellows at the Ministry of
Gender are provided with a room in a room in a GHC apartment. The living quarters
are self-contained, meaning that the kitchen, bathroom, living, and sleeping
areas are in one building. The Ministry of Gender fellow will have a private
room but share common areas with other GHC fellows. It is basic but
comfortable, situated in Kampala, an urban center and capital of Uganda.
National fellows have the option to remain in their own housing and receive a
supplemental housing stipend.
