High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR)

established on December 14, 1950 by the United Nations General Assembly.
UNHCR’s mandate under the Statute of the Office of the United Nations High
Commissioner for Refugees is to lead and co-ordinate action for international
protection to refugees; seek permanent solutions for the problems of refugees
and safeguard refugee rights and well-being. UNHCR has an additional mandate
concerning issues of statelessness, as it is given a designated role under
Article 11 of the 1961 Convention on the Reduction of Statelessness.
Assistant will receive indirect guidance from other sections and units relevant
to the country programme(s). UNHCR Manual, programme objectives, Operations
Plans, UN and UNHCR financial/budgetary rules and regulations will guide the
work of the Programme Assistant.
Responsibilities:
- Collect and maintain data on project
activities. - Prepare background materials, working
papers and tables for briefing and review sessions. - Draft routine correspondence.
- The jobholder will collect data on the
implementation and performance of IPs agreements. - Apply UNHCR corporate tools (e.g. Global
Focus, Focus Client) to generate data for evidence-based decisions at the
country-level. - Offer support in ensuring compliance in
issuance of audit certificates for Implementing Partners. - Undertake field visits and accompany
programme monitoring missions. - Perform any other duties as required.
Country Office has sufficient administrative assistance and support in routine
services and activities within Programme Section thus better able to meet the
needs of persons of concern.
Experience:
- The ideal candidate for the United Nations
UNHCR Programme Assistant job placement should have completed secondary
education with training/ certificate in Business Administration, Social
Science, International Law or related field. - At least two years of previous job
experience relevant to the function. - Good computer skills (in MS office).
- Fluency in English and working knowledge
of another relevant UN language or local language.
