Chief of Party
Business Association CLUSA International (NCBA CLUSA) is the trade association
for cooperative businesses in the United States and an international
development organization. NCBA CLUSA provides cross-sector education, technical
assistance, and advocacy that helps businesses thrive. For nearly 100 years,
NCBA CLUSA has sought to advance and protect business enterprises, highlighting
the impact that economic development has in bettering the lives of individuals
and families. In the last 60 years, NCBA CLUSA has worked in over 100 countries
in the areas of food security, agricultural development, strengthening of
communities and farmer organizations, community-based health, natural resources
management, and empowerment of smallholder farmers, women, and youth. We currently
work in 17 countries in Africa, Latin America, and Asia.
received funding from MasterCard Foundation to reach young people in Northern
and Mid – Western Uganda in the ages of 15-24 and support them to establish
sustainable commercial enterprises. The project name is Youth Empowerment
Through Agriculture (YETA).
Entrepreneurship Services Specialist will be responsible for designing the
implementation strategy to build capacity in business and marketing skills for
all youth associations along the identified agricultural value chains. The
incumbent will also promote entrepreneurship among the youth associations to
enhance equitable employability of young men and women in the program area. The
incumbent will be leading value chain analysis and development plans to ensure
sustainability of businesses created by the youths within the youth
associations
Work
closely with consortium partners and key stakeholders to design and develop a
business training curriculum for the youth associations
Prepare
monthly and quarterly technical reports, technical documents, work plans and
budgets in coordination with other technical staff to realize program targets
on time.
Actively
participate in relevant meetings, technical working groups and conferences, to
share knowledge, coordinate programs and to identify potential opportunities
and challenges
Provide
business and advanced agricultural production techniques trainings to Youth
Entrepreneurship Advisors (YEAs) on how to write business plans, marketing
plans, and conduct feasibility assessments for the youth associations, as well
as how to conduct and document follow-up technical assistance visits.
Work
closely with Youth Entrepreneurship Advisors in supporting enterprise selection
activities for Youth Associations (YAs)
Conduct
business skills trainings together with Youth Entrepreneurship Advisors for
Business Skills Trainers and YAs
Work
in liaison with Youth Entrepreneurship Advisors to develop simple business and
marketing plans for youth associations
Offer
support in the development of sustainable agribusiness and agri-trade
strategies that identify key local and regional market opportunities for YAs.
Work
closely with YEAs to initiate and pilot business incubation at youth
association level
Work
with YEAs to coordinate private Sector Mentorship to the Youth Associations
Assist
in the development and strategic support in a wide variety of areas, including
value chain development and upgrading strategies, improving access to
agricultural inputs, agricultural extension, and marketing
The
incumbent will coordinate collection of business related data to ensure that
such indicators are tracked and reported to the monitoring and evaluation
(M&E) system
Facilitate
market driven linkages between YAs, agribusiness producers, wholesalers,
processors, and markets
Support
access to agro inputs and output markets by the YAs
Ensure
good coordination of all entrepreneurship related activities in the field All
other duties as assigned.
The
ideal candidate should preferably hold a Bachelor’s degree in fields related to
business management, Entrepreneurship and/or marketing
At
least five years’ experience in a private sector businesses.
Previous
exposure and experience working in agriculture and/or youth sectors preferred
Experience
working with youth pre-cooperatives and cooperatives is desirable
Hands-on
experience in coordinating and growing private sector companies.
Experience
facilitating training modules.
Proven
success in developing and implementing business and marketing plans
Experience
mentoring and coaching businesses to realize potential.
Knowledge
of the northern region, language requirements, and ability to travel frequently
and for long durations.
Good
networking skills will be an added advantage
