Job Summary: The
Business Development Officer will manage the development of grant proposals to
support World Vision Uganda’s programming. This position will work within the
Grant Acquisition and Development (GAM) Division alongside sectoral specialists
and Integrated Programme staff in the design and development of grant
applications. The incumbent will actively develop strategic relationships with
support offices, donors, NGOs and the UN for coordination and fund-raising
purpose to support World Vision Uganda’s programming. The Business Development
Officer will serve as a main link between World Vision Uganda (WVU), support
offices and major donors. The incumbent will work in liaison with Project
Managers, Technical Specialist and field staff, undertake proposal design and
support in implementation and monitoring of projects to meet the sector goals
as outlined in WVU’s National Office Strategy. The jobholder will actively seek
out strategic alliances with donors, NGOs, UN, governments, support offices,
bilateral and multilateral agencies for purposes of coordination, increasing
collaboration, pre-positioning and securing grant funding. The incumbent will
work in close collaboration with Project Managers and Finance team, ensure
accurate, accountable reporting of donor resources.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:  
Resource Acquisition:
·        
Support
the Grant Acquisition and Development (GAM) Division in the acquisition of new
grants and maintenance of current portfolio to increase grant funding aligned
to World Vision Uganda strategy;
·        
Identify
new grant opportunities by building relationships with a variety of donors,
researching donor websites, monitoring newspapers and collaborating with World
Vision Support Offices globally;
·        
Take
lead in proposal development in selected areas of World Vision Uganda’s work
during the design of new projects and redesign of existing ones;
·        
Work
closely with World Vision Uganda technical specialists and Support Offices to
develop high quality, innovative and winning proposals;
·        
Act
as overall coordinator between Support Offices, partners, Quality Assurance and
Integrated Programmes during the design process until project start up;
·        
Review
and develop high quality, successful proposal concepts and lead in developing
full proposals;
·        
Initiate
new proposals based on relevant calls for proposals;
·        
Coordinate
internal meetings and support relevant World Vision Uganda staff to assess
grant opportunities and collect inputs needed to develop highly competitive
proposals;
·        
Update
grant opportunity tracker and ensure GAM responds in a timely manner for
on-time submission of grant proposals.
Donor Relations:
·        
Develop
and maintain strong relationships with principal donors and gather intelligence
on new opportunities and trends that align to WVU strategic priorities;
·        
Secure
key donor meetings and articulate how World Vision Uganda’s work matches donor
priorities;
·        
Support
the Division in identifying strategic partners to strengthen World Vision
Uganda’s position in competing for new awards;
·        
Actively
market WVU to donors through visits, attendance at events and participation in
working groups;
·        
Maintain
up-to-date mapping on donor contacts, trends and opportunities and support WVU
staff to build relations with donors;
·        
Ensure
that partner relations are maintained and improved;
·        
Provide
timely, detailed and quality program reports to Support Offices and donors on
grant funded programs;
·        
Represent
WVU in various donor and coordination forums at the National level and provide
programmatic information as required and maintain good relationships with
donors including UN agencies, bilateral, multilaterals, governments and World
Vision Support Offices.
Qualifications, Skills and
Experience: 
·        
The applicant for the World Vision Business Development Officer job
placement should hold a University
degree in business development, NGO management, journalism or related field;
Master’s Degree preferred;
·        
At
least three to five years of proven work experience securing major grants,
preferably in a similar position;
·        
Previous
exposure and experience in project design and writing highly competitive
proposals;
·        
Broad
knowledge and understanding of major donors’ perspectives, requirements and
standards;
·        
Knowledge
of key development areas such as livelihoods, child protection, health, social
accountability, income generation, etc.
·        
Proven
track record of securing grants from major donors including USAID, UN agencies,
European Union, DFID, the World Bank and the private sector.
·        
Demonstrated
writing skills: the ability to develop quality concept notes, proposals, logical
frameworks and reports under tight deadlines.
·        
Previous
experience working with both bilateral and multilateral donors.
·        
Networking/external
engagement skills: proven experience in networking with donors and partners to
bring about funding opportunities.
·        
A
strategic thinker; the ability to develop proposals which meet strategic
objectives of donors, the organization, and government.
·        
Innovative
and the ability to think outside of the box.
·        
Team
player; the ability to work as part of a diverse team to achieve the overall
goal.
·        
Excellent
organizational, time management and interpersonal skills.
·        
Proven
analytical and problem-solving abilities.
