The National Coalition of Human Rights Defenders Uganda (NCHRD-U) is an umbrella organization of individuals and organizations working to promote the protection of Human Rights Defenders (HRD) in Uganda, united in our mission we provide a platform for promoting synergy, cooperation, collaboration and sharing of best practices among HRDs in Uganda to overcome challenges faced. The NCHRD-U came to life during its launch in June 2013.
Job Summary: The Accountant will provide professional services related to Financial Management and Accounting for the National Coalition of Human Rights Defenders.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
- Capture transactions in the accounting systems
- Perform monthly bank and other reconciliations in the Organization
- Support the budget process in the Organization by offering technical support
- Follow up accountabilities on ail funds disbursed to staff to ensure timely retirement of those accountabilities and submit report on transactions defaulting accounting and reporting guidelines
- Effect cheque payments to Suppliers and transact of staff salaries in a timely manner
- Prepare and submit reports , financial reports and other financial information to support decision making
- Prepare payroll of the organization and submit necessary returns with all statutory schedules to relevant bodied (URA, NSSF and local Government)
- Check the postings in the petty cash book
- Check the petty cash payment vouchers and posting to the accounting system
- Post the general ledger and reconcile to the receipt cash book and cheque paid in from internal revenue and external sources including membership subscription, donation etc
- Undertake regular petty cash count, investigate and reconcile and difference or discrepancy with the assistance of Accounts Assistant
- Perform any other duties that may be assigned by FAM or other immediate supervisor.
Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
- The ideal candidate should hold a Bachelor of Business Administration, Bachelor of Commerce (Accounts option) or the equivalent accrued working experience in a related position.
- Professional qualification of ACCA, CPA level 2 or more.
- A minimum of three years’ experience in the related field of Financial Management and Accounting.
- Knowledgeable in basic accounting packages including Quick books will be of an advantage.
