Women in Democracy (FOWODE)
Uganda
organization operating in Uganda with its head office in Kampala. FOWODE grew
out of the Women’s Caucus of the 1994 – 1995 Constituency Assembly (CA) that
debated and passed the 1995 Constitution. The organization’s mission is to
promote gender equality in all areas of decision making through Capacity
Development, Community Empowerment, Policy Engagement and Strategic
Partnerships.
Director (PD) for the Gender and Economic Policy Programme will play a focal
role at FOWODE as the head of one of its two programs. The PD is mandated to
think strategically and innovatively for the program and ensure that the
program remains highly visible and current In addition, the role requires that
the officer is able to fundraise for the program.
Responsibilities:
Provide strategic direction and technical
support to the program
Ensure alignment of the program’s work to the
organizational strategy
Identify innovations to propel the program and
ensure it remains current and relevant
Actively participate in monitoring and
evaluation of programme activities and take appropriate steps to ensure that
the programme achieves excellent results
Ensure the timely development and submission of
program narrative reports
Identify fundraising opportunities for the
program and together with the team raise funds for the program
Build and strengthen strategic partnerships for
the program in particular and the organization in general
Mentor and supervise the program officers
working in the program
Perform any other duties as may be assigned by
the Executive Director
Experience:
The ideal candidate should preferably hold a
Bachelor’s degree in Economics. Possession of a Master’s degree will be an
added advantage
A certificate in program planning and management
will also be an added advantage
At least five years’ experience in a
Non-governmental organization
A minimum of three years experience in program
management
Skills in strategic planning and management
Policy analysis, research and advocacy skills
and experience
Previous experience in fundraising
Clear thinking with conceptual and analytical
skills
Good facilitation / training skills
Computer literacy skills with working knowledge
of Microsoft word, excel, PowerPoint
Good knowledge and appreciation of women’s
rights and gender
