affected by conflict to improve their safety and sense of security. We do this
by supporting effective policies and practices through advocacy, research and

security and access to justice services; gender norms that cause and perpetuate
violent conflict; the impact of external conflict drivers including weapons
flows; conflict-sensitive political, economic, development, and security
engagement; and inclusive and accountable governance and peacebuilding processes.
Job Summary: The Monitoring,
Evaluation and Learning (MEL) Coordinator will be tasked with the improvement
of Saferworld’s understanding of the impact their projects have, and how we can
make them more effective. The Coordinator will be responsible for refining and
maintaining the M&E systems of the designated country programmes, ensuring
they are implemented effectively by key stakeholders. This needs to be
supported by actively engaging in data collection and building M&E capacity
of Saferworld and partner staff, including on more participatory approaches to

country programmes

systems and tools to ensure programmes are being monitored and evaluated
effectively, efficiently and in line with national strategies and donor

the process of identifying best ways to record, report and analyse MEL
information, comparing it to project targets, in close collaboration and
consultation with the programme teams
contribute to strengthening and developing procedures to improve the
programmes’ internal learning, and sharing with partners,other stakeholders,
and across the organisation
in close collaboration with Saferworld staff and other stakeholders, put in
place the framework and procedures for the monitoring and evaluation of
Lead on the implementation of monitoring, evaluation and learning
monitoring and evaluation systems and tools, data collection, entry, cleaning
and storage are appropriately implemented by Saferworld staff and partners
lead in the development and implementation of baseline studies and internal
to developing TORs for MEL surveys, mid-term and final project evaluations
external evaluations
on the identification of case studies and lessons learnt and contribute to the
dissemination of those lessons and best practices within the programmes, with
partners and other stakeholders, and across the organisation
Train Saferworld staff and partners on MEL-related issues: Organise and undertake training with
stakeholders, including Saferworld staff and partners, in MEL skills, including
participatory approaches to MEL
Ensure effective record keeping, data gathering, information sharing
and communication:
high quality and timely preparation of M&E data for reports to donors,
partners, and Saferworld
staff and implementing partners in preparing and analysing progress reports
Qualifications, Skills and
ideal candidate for the Saferworld Monitoring, Evaluation and Learning
(MEL) Coordinator job opportunity should hold a Bachelor’s degree in development studies, peace
studies, or relevant experience
A minimum of three years’ experience in the design/development of MEL methods and
approaches within the INGO/NGO world or similar
experience with the logical framework approach and Theories of Change
experience with planning and implementation of MEL systems, including planning
and implementation of baseline studies
exposure and experience of working with staff and partners to implement
MEL systems
experience in information analysis and report writing
experience in areas such as peacebuilding, conflict prevention, gender
equality, youth work, security and justice or related fields is desirable
experience in strategic planning and/or organisational learning or
organisational development would be an advantage
and/or understanding of the challenges of working in difficult, complex
conflict-affect and post-conflict environments is desirable
standard for computer literacy, including Excel;
in written and spoken English (Arabic is an advantage)
to undertake regular field visits and interact with different stakeholders,
especially primary stakeholders
to work in a team and to reach out to team members in partner organisations
