Organization that helps families and children orphaned and made vulnerable by
HIV/AIDS to access the comprehensive support and care they need to grow into
healthy adults.
Job Summary: The
Communications Specialist is mainly responsible for the documentation and
design, development, and dissemination of public-facing communications
materials for WEI/Bantwana’s projects. The Communications Specialist’s primary
goal is to support strategic communications and messaging on issues related to
a targeted audience, including the U.S. Government as a donor and both Ugandan
and international public audiences.
Key Duties and
Responsibilities:  
Manage and Oversee Communications Function:
·        
Keenly review the WEI/Bantwana documentation and
dissemination plan and provide an action plan on how the deliverables contained
therein can best be achieved
·        
Assist WEI/Bantwana staff with the design,
development, editing, and dissemination of relevant communications materials as
outlined in the documentation and dissemination plan
·        
Ensure the implementation of the documentation
and dissemination plan with the agreed timeframe as per guidance from the
Program Heads/Directors and/or the Boston Strategic Communications Officer
·        
Work closely with Programs Heads/Directors to
ensure timely completion of the program’s mandatory reports that include, but
are not limited to, the project’s quarterly, annual, LQAS and end of project
reports;
·        
Offer technical support and guidance in
designing and editing of WEI/Bantwana program reports and other WEI/ Bantwana
communication materials and ensure production of high quality products
·        
Drive social media presence (internally and
externallyf including writing, or encouraging other staff to write, and
maintaining content on relevant channels such as Facebook, Twitter, Instagram,
and the internal Bantwana newsletter, and any other relevant media channels in
coordination with the U.S. Headquarters and employs best practices for all
platforms
·        
Develop and proactively recommend various
communication strategies and opportunities in alignment with WEI/Bantwana
objectives
·        
Guide staff regarding the best use of the broad
range of tools, processes, and practices of both internal and external
communications. This should include introduction of the new strategies and
concepts to advance the communication approach
·        
Plan and visit the field to capture photographs,
success stories, testimonies, and strategic information alongside technical
staff
·        
Update Senior Management team, communications
staff in Boston, and technical staff in Jinja regularly on the progress of the
communication materials to be produced at the end of project
·        
Design innovative, quality graphics for the
communication products to be produced at all projects and at the end of
projects
·        
Offer support in the planning and materials
development for events, conferences, or campaigns
·        
Establishes and fosters communications-related
partnerships to ensure appropriate, quality, and consistency of WEI/Bantwana
messaging
Qualifications, Skills and
Experience: 
·        
The ideal candidate should preferably hold a
University degree in Mass Communication, Social Sciences or related field
·        
At least five years working experience in
Uganda, ideally in the international development field
·        
Familiarity with Government of Uganda systems
and procedures, National ministries, USAID and other partners will be an added
advantage
·        
Effective communication, problem solving and
decision making skills
·        
Strong skills in team working, networking and
strategic thinking
·        
Proficiency in the Microsoft Office Suite,
including Word, Powerpoint, Excel, and Publisher
·        
Working knowledge of the Adobe Creative Suite,
preferred
·        
Ability to set and work within timelines
·        
Excellent people skills and demonstrated public
relations skills
·        
Keen interest in key children’s programming
areas, such as child protection, health including HIV prevention and response,
education etc
·        
Ability to prioritize and multitask in a fast
paced environment
·        
High degree of integrity
·        
Excellent English communication skills, both
oral and written
