About UNRA:
The
Uganda National Roads Authority (UNRA) was established by an Act of Parliament;
The Uganda National Authority Act, No. 15 of 2006. UNRA became operational on
1st July 2008.  The mandate of UNRA is to
develop and maintain the national roads network, advise Government on general
roads policy and contribute to addressing of transport concerns, among others.

Job Summary: The Geotechnical Engineer will be in charge of
conducting independent Geotechnical data collection, tests and analyses,
reviewing quality of ground support systems and slope designs and making
recommendations on ground support systems. The Geotechnical Engineer will also
be responsible for reviewing ground conditions to ensure that unforeseen
situations are detected at an early stage to enable corrective design and
construction measures to be implemented.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Conduct independent Geotechnical
    investigations in line with departmental standards and targets;
  • Perform regular reviews on ground conditions
    during design in line with departmental guidelines and standards;
  • Assess the materials to be used for each
    project in line with departmental guidelines and standards;
  • Conduct regular reviews and quality assurance
    on geotechnical reports submitted by external Service Providers in line
    with departmental standards;
  • In charge of responding to audit reports in
    line with departmental guidelines and standards;
  • Develop a risk matrix and put in place risk
    mitigation measures in the Geotechnical area;
  • Actively participate in the Planning,
    budgeting and reporting in line with departmental guidelines and targets.
  • Perform any other duties as assigned by the Head
    Quality Control.

Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
  • The applicant for the UNRA Geotechnical
    Engineer job vacancy should hold an Honors Degree in Civil Engineering,
    Geology, or related field;
  • Applicants with professional registration
    with the ERB or relevant Association of professional engineers in the
    commonwealth countries will have an added advantage;
  • Additional Post Graduate qualifications in
    Civil Engineering, Geology, or other relevant field will be an added
    advantage;
  • At least three years’ experience in Geotechnical
    investigations for roads and bridges.
  • Impeccable level of integrity;
  • Computer literacy skills
  • Proven track record of outstanding
    performance;
  • Excellent interpersonal, particularly
    staff/management relations skills
  • Excellent oral and written communication
    skills.
