Uganda
asset and currently operates a total of 2541.44 kilometers of track network
linking the shores of the Indian Ocean to the agriculturally rich hinterland of
the Kenya Highlands and into Kampala, Uganda on the shores of Lake Victoria in
a 25-year concession agreement originally signed in 2006.
Responsibilities:
- The Legal Officer will review and revise
all contracts or any other documentation where the Company intends to
commit itself and assess legal implications - Prepare, review and modify contractual
instruments - Prepare and maintain a schedule of
contracts in the required format - The incumbent will be assisting instructing
departments in contract term negotiations - Formulate compliance check-lists to be
used for the purpose of ensuring that the company is contractually and
statutorily compliant. - Continuously monitor compliance with
statutory obligations and advise management accordingly - Provide counsel to Management on all
Labour Matters - The incumbent will also receive Summons on
behalf of the Company Secretary; timeously collate information necessary
to defend the company’s interests in court and issue timely instructions
to the company’s external advocates - Review progress of outstanding litigation
& liaise with external lawyers - Keep a record of court dates, collect and
prepare witnesses and ensure their attendance in court as required - Maintain a Schedule of all legal cases
with current status updates - Attend Court on behalf of the Company
- Manage the company’s asset insurance
policies - Manage the company’s PR function and
develop PR strategies, campaigns, And initiatives to improve public
perception of company
Experience:
- The ideal candidate for the Rift Valley
Railways Legal Officer job placement must hold an LLB undergraduate
degree; - The applicant must also be an Advocate of
the High Court of Uganda. - A minimum of five years of legal experience
ideally in a leading organization, with a proven track record in contract
negotiation and drafting; - Broad knowledge of the labour laws of
Uganda - Proven track record of providing accurate
and effective legal counsel; - Proven track record of in developing
comprehensive contract documents that mitigate risk and penalties. - Strong leadership and managerial skills;
- Excellent relationship management and
communication skills necessary for interaction with government
institutions
