Law Society is a membership organization established by an Act of Parliament to
provide services to its members in particular and to the people of Uganda in
general. Its vision is to excel as a
professional body in the development of the legal profession and promotion of
justice in Uganda. Its mission is to improve the professional standards of
members of the legal profession and to promote human rights and the rule of
law, by assisting the government and the judiciary in the administration and
practice of law in Uganda. Uganda Law Society operates a Legal Aid Project.
for co-ordinating and implementing the Pro-Bono Scheme on behalf of Uganda Law
Society, its membership and the Law Council.
- In charge of coordinating the implementation
of the Pro-Bono scheme among practicing Advocates and members of the
Uganda Law Society. - Work in close consultation with the Head
Legal Aid and Pro-Bono, select and identify suitable cases for Pro-Bono
services and refer the same cases to pro-bono lawyers - Responsible for the development and
maintenance of a catalogue of the allocation and status of all Pro-Bono
cases being undertaken by the Society. - Carry out periodic reviews and appraisals of
the Pro-Bono scheme and making recommendations to inform planning and
networking. - Work in liaison with M&E to ensure
regular Monitoring and Evaluation processes of project activities to ensure
optimal utilization of allocated resources - Design and implement strategies to endear the
Pro-Bono Program to the membership and other stake holders. - Responsible for the preparation of monthly,
quarterly and annual program activities and reports relating to the pro
bono scheme - Generate proposals, budgets and work plans for the pro-bono program
- Representation of ULS to relevant forums.
- Perform any other duties as assigned by the
supervisor
- The applicant should preferable hold an LLB
and post graduate diploma in legal practice - A minimum of two to three years of
professional experience and qualified to appear before the High Court. - A minimum of two to three years in a
management position - Computer literacy skills
- Tested skills in ADR and advocacy.
- Training and skills transfer ability
- Good project management skills
- An open and result oriented approach to work
- Good leadership, management and team building
skills - Good report writing skills
- Integrity, confidentiality and the ability to
accomplish tasks promptly under minimum supervision.
