for Poverty Action (IPA) discovers and promotes effective solutions to global
poverty problems. IPA designs, rigorously evaluates, and refines these
solutions and their applications together with decision-makers to ensure that
the evidence created is used to improve opportunities for the world’s poor. Since
our founding in 2002, IPA has worked with over 350 leading academics to conduct
over 450 evaluations in 51 countries. This research has informed hundreds of
successful programs that now impact millions of individuals worldwide.
-YOP (Youth Opportunities Program) is an 8-year follow-up on an employment
program in northern Uganda, which was evaluated using a randomized controlled
trial led by Chris Blattman (Columbia University) and Nathan Fiala (University
of Connecticut) in partnership with the World Bank and Government of Uganda.
This highly influential study was one of the first randomized trials of a
cash-based employment program in the world. YOP invited roughly 20
underemployed young men and women to submit proposals for grants of roughly
$8,000. This program turned out to be one of the most effective employment
programs on record.
Volunteer) will primarily support the RAs prepare for the launch of YOP’s
8-year follow up. Responsibilities will include survey programming, data
quality design, and preparing training materials. YOP will launch late summer
in districts across northern Uganda.
