About Hospice:
Hospice
Africa Uganda (HAU) is a national organization which was founded in 1993 to
promote modern methods of pain and symptom control as well as
“whole-person” (holistic) care for patients living with cancer and
HIV/AIDS. HAU strives to uphold excellent clinical standards and provide
quality education courses and advocacy activities to promote the spread of
palliative care throughout Uganda and Africa.
Job Summary: The Communications & Fundraising Officer will
steer all HAU communication activities to support fundraising and to raise
awareness of HAU’s work in Uganda and abroad. The jobholder will work closely
with the Development Manager in devising & implementing an active
fundraising strategy and contribute to advocacy efforts.
Key Duties and Responsibilities: 
1. Communication
Functions
:
  • Develop and deliver a dynamic communication
    strategy that supports HAU fundraising and advocacy work;
  • Develop and support communications
    partnerships with HAU stakeholders and other organizations;
  • The jobholder will plan for and engage in
    internal and external meetings with partners;
  • Develop and implement communications
    strategies around all HAU campaigns and activities;
  • Offer general communications support to HAU
    team members;
  • Measure progress and engage actively across strategies
    to share best practices and lessons learned;
  • Actively promote high quality interactions
    and clear and consistent communications with grantees and partners;
  • Ensure that all communication activities are
    in keep with HAU mission and enhance the reputation of HAU;
  • Support Heads of Department and program leads
    communicate and engage with grantees, partners, and other key
    stakeholders;
  • Build and strengthen relationships with media
    in print, broadcast and online;
  • Oversee HAU website content;
  • Keep up to speed on all that is broadcast and
    written in the media about palliative and hospice care within Uganda and
    in other countries.
2. Fundraising Functions:
  • Develop and implement a creative and
    energetic community fundraising strategy;
  • Establish additional sources of funding
    through supporting development of strategy for recruiting major donors.
  • Work closely with the PDD office to research
    potential funding opportunities and make detailed applications to trust
    funds & potential donors;
  • Ensure up-to date and accurate records are
    kept of donations;
  • Explore new and alternative source of funding
    to meet HAU agreed fundraising targets in conjunction with trustees and
    HAU team members.
Qualifications, Skills and Experience: 
  • The ideal candidate for the Communications
    & Fundraising Officer job opportunity should hold a Degree in either
    Mass Communication, Journalism, Public Relations or a related field
  • Two years’ experience in palliative care is
    an added advantage.
  • Excellent communication Skills.
