About UNESB:
The
United Nations Entebbe Support Base (UNESB) was established by MONUSCO (formerly
MONUC) in May 2003 with 30 staff occupying 500sqm on the Entebbe International
Airport to provide logistics and operational support to Eastern DRC. Since its
establishment, the proven operational capabilities of this facility coupled
with the strategic location to neighboring missions, the reliable logistic
infrastructure and the political stability of Uganda were all valuable
considerations which prompted the expansion of ESB to its current capacity.

Key Duties and Responsibilities: Under the supervision of the OIC Security
Operations & Guard Force Management, the incumbent will undertake the
following duties:

- The incumbent will control and supervise
security guards in performing their duties: - Prepare and ensure the shifts schedule
implementation; Conduct daily briefings and assign security guards to
various functions or posts; Supervise staff and carry out inspections to
ensure that guards on duty are discharging their functions appropriately; - Routinely examine routine reports prepared by
subordinates and certify their accuracy; - Control the opening, closure and entry into
buildings to ensure security of the mission premises and issues building
passes as appropriate; - Manage all aspects of the administration and
work of security guards and watchmen; - Ensure that routine patrols and site patrols
are conducted to check security of buildings, personnel, equipment and
adherence to rules and regulations; - Receive, record and appropriately action
information received through all communication means; Make recommendations
to the supervising officer on operational matters; - The incumbent will brief security guards
under supervision of possible security threats and related operational
plans; - Obtain comprehensive security information and
produce background papers relating to incidents that affect safety and
security; - Assume control of specific areas as assigned
during periods of heightened security; Provide input for the performance
evaluation of security personnel under command; - Prepare and submit written reports of all
unusual incidents; Monitor and control communications network to ensure
security and discipline; - Keenly monitor adherence to computer and
information security guidelines; - Carry out security surveys of offices,
residences and other mission facilities; - Instruct personnel in the performance of
security services, including fire control and physical security of the
premises, first aid procedures, use of equipment; - Render support in conducting investigations
as directed and be able to prepare initial reports on accidents and
incidents involving UN personnel, installations and equipment; - Prepare and provide security briefings,
written security advice and recommendations to the hierarchy; Prepare
routine security reports for Head of Entebbe Security Section or as
delegated. - Ability to drive manual vehicles and respond
to security emergencies. The candidate MUST have a valid driver’s license. - Perform other duties assigned by the Unit
Chief (SIU) or Head of Entebbe Security Section.
Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
- The ideal candidate for the United Nations
Entebbe Support Base (ESB) Security Assistant career opportunity should
hold a High school diploma or equivalent. Must have passed the United
Nations Security Officer Test (SOT). - A minimum of three years’ experience in
security operations, including in civilian police force, military police,
or other relevant military operations. - Language: Fluency in oral and written English is
required. Knowledge of another official United Nations language is an
advantage.
