World Food Programme (WFP) is the United Nations frontline agency against world
hunger. It is the largest and longest serving humanitarian agency in Uganda.
Currently WFP focuses on three priority areas namely: Emergency Humanitarian
Action (EHA); Food & Nutrition Security (FNS); and Agriculture & Market
Support (AMS). WFP has operations in various parts of the Country.
Job Summary: The Logistics Officer – Tororo will manage the
increased Logistics operations for the Uganda World Food Programme Country Office
and South Sudan operations.
Key Duties and Responsibilities: 
  • Actively contribute towards the development
    of logistics plans and processes ensuring compliance with wider logistics
    policies and WFP standards.
  • Support logistics projects or operational
    day-to-day activities following standard processes and contributing,
    directly or indirectly, to the effective delivery of food assistance to
    beneficiaries.
  • Collect and analyse data through research and
    networking with colleagues to recommend actions to the supervisor to improve
    performance of local logistics operations.
  • Carry out financial analysis and budget
    reviews, drawing out insights and recommending actions to the supervisor
    to optimise use of available funds.
  • Guide support staff, acting as a point of
    referral and supporting them with analysis and queries.
  • Collate data and contribute to preparation of
    accurate and timely reporting, supporting a WFP wide view of logistics
    activities that enables informed decision making and consistency of
    information presented to stakeholders.
  • Provide support in capacity building of WFP
    staff and partners for efficient and effective delivery of food assistance
    to beneficiaries (i.e. through contribution to the training materials).
  • Identify and build productive relationships
    with logistics colleagues and staff within the area of assignment to
    support an integrated approach to food assistance.
  • Follow emergency logistics preparedness
    practices to ensure WFP are able to quickly respond and deploy food and
    needed resources to affected areas at the onset of the crisis.
  • Act in an assigned emergency response
    capacity as required to meet emergency food assistance needs.
  • Keenly monitor and supervise the activities
    of Staff, Tally Clerks, Security and casual labourers within the
    jurisdiction of Tororo Regional Warehouse.
  • Perform any other duties as may be assigned
    from time to time by the Logistics Officer – Operations
Qualifications, Skills and Experience: 
  • The applicants for the United Nations World
    Food Programme (WFP) Logistics Officer career opportunity should hold an advanced
    University degree in Transport Economics, Supply Chain, Logistics,
    Engineering, Business Management or any other related field attained from
    a recognized institution; Or University degree in Transport Economics,
    Supply Chain, Logistics, Engineering, Business Management or any other
    related field attained from a recognized institution;
  • A minimum of five years of relevant job
    related experience in logistics, supply chain management or transport
    business sector gained from a reputable institution;
  • Previous exposure and experience in working
    in Logistics including cross boarder operations;
  • Excellent knowledge of financial management
    practices and ability to execute tasks quickly and with minimal
    supervision;
  • Proven ability to develop and maintain
    effective work relationships with logistics counterparts and staff within
    the regional/country office;
  • Demonstrated ability to deal patiently and
    tactfully with people of different national and cultural backgrounds;
  • Computer literacy i.e. working knowledge and
    experience using MS Office applications.
  • Excellent command of spoken and written
    English;
