maximises funds reaching field project actions and minimises administration and
non-value adding activities. UCF works to better protect Uganda’s National
Parks and their unique biodiversity for the benefit of wildlife, local
communities, the global community and future generations. UCF works closely
with Uganda Wildlife Authority (UWA) to identify specific needs for step
changes, designing targeted projects, identifying funding gaps and raising
funds to address these needs. Its work is highly valued by its main
beneficiaries – local communities and UWA.
Job Summary: The Projects Coordinator will take lead in the delivery
of multiple conservation and community projects across different regions, on time
and under budget, and report on them to the GM and donors as required. The
jobholder will be tasked with leading the Projects team to achieve current
outputs, with capacity to grow alongside the company in future years. The
Projects Co-ordinator will be responsible for managing all operations – as well
as monitoring & evaluation – of all projects. The Projects Co-ordinator is
a new role within the organisation that will transform our operational capacity
and help measure and communicate our impact better to key stakeholders.  The incumbent will have the opportunity to
help protect wildlife, combat wildlife crime, and improve the livelihoods of
communities around Uganda.
Key Duties and Responsibilities: 
  • Manage the supervision, co-ordination and implementation
    of deliverables on multi-stakeholder projects, supported by the Head Field
    Officer and Projects team, prioritizing where necessary and synergizing
    where possible
  • In charge of the day to day mentoring and
    management of the Projects team
  • Ongoing development of Monitoring &
    Evaluation systems and policies; ensuring systematic collection of project
    data for analysis and reporting
  • Coordinating and verifying monthly project reports
    compiled by the POs and produce a quarterly project progress report for
    the GM and Boards.
  • Preparing and submitting project reports for
    donors
  • Support the General Manager in quarterly and
    annual planning of budgets and resources against project outputs, and
    inputting into the preparation of the annual report
  • Work closely with Project Leads and key
    stakeholders to ensure core objectives are being met
  • Ensure active participation in strategic development
    of new projects, and assist in grant writing where relevant
Key Performance Indicators: 
  • Community conservation projects focused on
    livelihoods, human wildlife conflict mitigation and ecosystem services in
    MFCA, QECA and other areas over time
  • Infrastructure projects including ranger
    posts, marine stations, veterinary facilities etc
  • In charge of capacity-building projects
    including training of wildlife law enforcement staff, support/monitoring
    of prosecution and criminal justice processes, international veterinary
    symposiums etc
  • Endangered species research and monitoring
    projects including Lions, Giraffe and Elephant
  • Engagement projects such as education and
    outreach, films and awarenessraising activities
  • Our areas of operation focus on MFCA and QECA
    at present, but include Kibale Forest, Semliki Valley, Kidepo Valley and
    Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary, as well as activities coordinated at a national (and
    increasingly regional) level tackling wildlife crime and trafficking.
    Areas earmarked for future development of projects include Karamoja/Pian Upe
    community corridors, as well as districts surrounding Lake Albert.
Qualifications, Skills and Experience: 
  • The applicant should at least hold a relevant
    degree
  • A minimum of five years’ experience in a
    senior project management role within conservation or community
    development
  • Proven ability to mentor and manage a team of
    staff to deliver project outputs
  • Ability to design and implement improved
    project management and monitoring and evaluation systems
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication
    skills in English, both verbal and written
  • Significant experience of monitoring &
    evaluation techniques and comfortable with data management and analysis
  • Be self-motivated, impact driven, practical,
    tolerant and flexible to seek innovative, creative and balanced solutions
  • Proven skills in financial management,
    planning and budgetary control
  • Previous experience in proposal and report
    writing
  • Proficiency with Office software, especially
    Word, Excel, Powerpoint and Outlook
  • Experience of working and living in
    sub-saharan Africa with multi-cultural teams
  • Keen interest in, or experience of, wildlife
    conservation
  • Working knowledge of QuickBooks and GIS
    mapping techniques is desired
