Nairobi Securities Exchange with over 6,483 shareholders, including high value
international institutional investors. Umeme operates under a concession with a
structural monopoly in the distribution of electricity across Uganda,
distributing 99% of electricity in Uganda through a single buyer model.
Job Summary: The Treasury Manager will conduct the day-to-day
management of Umeme’s treasury operations and controls including cash and
liquidity management, corporate financial management and financial risk
management.
Key Duties and Responsibilities: 
  • Offer strategic and operational direction to
    the treasury function.
  • Ensure accurate and timely accounting of
    treasury transactions including review of reconciliations of cash and near
    cash items.
  • Forecast and manage the company’s cash flows
    and ensure adequate liquidity to meet company obligations as they fall
    due.
  • Significantly contribute to financial
    discipline through development, implementation and evaluation of cash
    management systems to optimize efficiencies.
  • Source and manage Low cost investment funds,
    concessionary funding, and represent Umeme in funder discussions and up to
    final agreements
  • Coordinate and implement financial risk
    management strategies covering interest rate, foreign exchange and
    liquidity risks.
  • Direct, monitor and trade investment
    portfolios including working capital, High-Yield, Escrow, and other
    portfolios.
  • In charge of supporting the annual and
    long-term investment planning processes
  • Manage the performance and development of the
    treasury section staff.
Qualifications, Skills and Experience: 
  • The ideal candidate should hold a Bachelor’s degree
    in Accounting, Finance, Statistics or any other associated discipline from
    a recognized university.
  • Possession of professional qualification in
    accounting i.e. ACCA or CPA.
  • At least four years’ experience in a similar
    position in a listed or service organization.
  • Advanced analytical and organizational skills
  • Good interpersonal skills
  • Broad knowledge and understanding of Ugandan
    tax legislation is added advantage
