Training Programme (MUII)
Makerere University /Uganda Virus Research Institute was established in 2008 as
a Centre of Excellence to Infection & Immunity Research and Training
(MUII-plus) is based at the Uganda Virus Research Institute (UVRI), and
collaborates with the Makerere University Colleges of Health Sciences (CHS),
Natural Sciences (CoNAS) and Veterinary Medicine, Animal Health and Biosecurity
(CoVAB) as well as the Infectious Diseases Institute. Among its objectives
MUII-Plus seeks to support strong finance and administration structures for
research management at UVRI.

- Work closely with the Director of the MUII
Centre to develop Centre strategy - Support talented young African scientists to
develop their careers - Regularly interact with international
collaborators - The incumbent will also ensure the smooth
implementation and running of the MUII Centre programme of work - Steer the administrative management of the
Centre - Arrange Steering and Advisory Board meetings
- Arrange and chair executive meetings
- Organise courses, meetings and events
- The jobholder will also organise advertising
selection processes for recruitment of MUII Centre fellows - Organise advertising and selection processes
for award of MUII Centre grants - Meet with Programme staff and researchers to
ensure Programme Objectives are being met - Mentor and supervise administrative staff
- Ensure that documentation of MUII Centre
management processes, policies and procedures is in place, and that these
are followed - Serves as the secretary to the Steering
Committee and Scientific Advisory Board - Prepare and submit reports
- Deputise for the Director when required
- The ideal candidate should preferably hold a Master’s
degree in Public Health and Administration/ Project Planning and
Management/ Monitoring and Evaluation or similar, ideally with some
science background, and keen to develop a career in research management - A minimum of four years’ experience in a
position of project management / coordination/monitoring and evaluation. - Passion for the development of science
research in Uganda - Comprehensive working knowledge and
understanding of research responsibilities and conduct - Ability to organise, time manage, set goals
and motivate staff - Personal integrity, ability to learn,
flexibility and concern for excellence
