Job Summary: The Policy and Advocacy Officer will manage
Wetlands International Programs and Projects in Uganda and maintain the in-country
partnerships. The incumbent will render support in coordinating policy
development and undertaking research and providing analyses of policy issues
focusing on (but not limited to) integrated water resources management (IWRM),
ecosystem based disaster risk reduction (EcoDRR) and biodiversity.
Wetlands International Programs and Projects in Uganda and maintain the in-country
partnerships. The incumbent will render support in coordinating policy
development and undertaking research and providing analyses of policy issues
focusing on (but not limited to) integrated water resources management (IWRM),
ecosystem based disaster risk reduction (EcoDRR) and biodiversity.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
- Oversee the Wetlands International advocacy
efforts on specific advocacy priorities, representing Wetlands
International to high profile policy makers, practitioners, think tanks,
academic partners, the media and the public - Work in liaison with the Wetlands
International policy and advocacy teams to support the development of
advocacy strategies and activities on priority issues and develop
coordinated activities on priority themes - Provide research and analysis to key debates
and produce reports, briefing notes and materials on the policy
environment within Uganda and the region - Jointly with partners, plan and coordinate
all policy and advocacy initiatives to ensure the program delivers
effective evidence base to influence policy - The incumbent will coordinate policy
development providing advice and technical assistance to pertinent staff
to ensure consistency and coherence. - The jobholder will also plan, organize and
support the delivery of capacity development activities for staff and
Civil Society Organisations (CSOs) and support the development of related
materials, on-line tools and information kits
Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
- The applicant should ideally hold an advanced
university degree in Environmental Law/ Political Sciences or related
disciplines with a bias in environmental sciences or natural resources
management, or related field - A minimum of ten years’ experience in
managing and coordinating environmental policy and advocacy programs/
projects - Working experience in policy and advocacy
related to wetlands, water and disaster management - The successful candidate will have a proven
track record of managing multi-partner programs and projects and working
with different partners. - Possess strong policy, advocacy and
environmental expertise and a good understanding government, private
sector and civil society complemented with a relevant network. - Broad knowledge and understanding of
integrated water resources management, ecosystem based disaster risk
reduction, wetlands management and biodiversity issues at relevant scales
and be well able to profile Wetlands International as an authority in
wetlands issues.
