Ltd. is a company with a long history in Uganda, since 1956 under the name Edm.
Schluter & Co. (Uganda) Limited. The company started with export of washed
Robusta coffee. 
ESCO
moved to the Democratic Republic of Congo in 1969. It re-opened as ESCO Uganda
in 1994, trading in cocoa and vanilla in Bundibugyo district. Currently it is
one of the major buyers in the district. Both, cocoa and vanilla are exported
as certified organic products.
Key Duties and Responsibilities: 
  • Ensure that all contracts are correctly
    executed, especially regarding quality, quantity,  destination as well as shipping period /
    means for all commodities;
  • Maximize the efficiency of turnaround of
    capital invested in stocks through timely stock movements, invoicing and
    credit control;
  • Keenly check and ensure accuracy of the
    export documentation detail;
  • Build, strengthen and manage working
    relationships with Esco’s buyers, forwarders, customs and government
    agencies;
  • Manage Esco’s fleet of vehicles, supervise
    fleet maintenance and transport of goods;
  • Oversee stock management in Uganda and DRC as
    well as control all imports on behalf of the companies;
  • Oversee the relationships with certifiers
    such as for Certified Organic and UTZ and monitor tracking information of
    certified cocoa;
  • The incumbent will ensure loading and
    shipping schedules are updated, in order and properly communicated both
    internally and to clients;
  • Constantly monitor news and information about
    forwarding and shipping with a view towards finding out more competitive
    means of exporting the company’s goods;
  • Visit upcountry locations in both Uganda and
    DR Congo with a view to relieving bottlenecks and improving the through
    flow of goods;
  • Guide the Managing Director on marketing Esco
    Uganda and Esco Kivu products in tandem with varying levels of production
    through the year. To monitor the physical stock position and advise on
    sales;
  • Report any export or audit concerns to the MD
    or the relevant department in time for action.
  • Make a periodic report to management on
    shipping issues.
Qualifications, Skills and Experience: 
  • The ideal candidate should preferably hold a
    Business or Logistics-related degree or equivalent
  • A qualification in clearing and forwarding
  • At least three years’ experience working with
    an exporting or forwarding firm at a management level
  • Broad knowledge and background in agriculture
    would be an added advantage
  • Excellent Computer Skills; Microsoft Word,
    Excel, Data management
  • High concern for detail, accuracy and
    standards
  • Excellent interpersonal skills
  • Customer service orientation
  • Proactive work ethics, decision making
    ability, flexibility, patience and persistence required
  • Eagerness to promote the company’s mission
    and subscribe to the firm’s core values
  • Capacity to work in a demanding environment
    and a desire to take on challenges
NB:  Working
knowledge of French is essential
