Simavi
is an international non-profit organisation, based in the Netherlands which
works with local partners to improve the health of people in the poorest
regions in developing countries.  With
more than one hundred partners we work together with communities. We influence
the policies of governments to take into account the health and rights of the
poorest people. We campaign to engage the general public and involve them in
what we do. We focus on the poorest regions of nine developing countries in
Asia and Africa.  
About WASH & Learn Project:
WASH
& Learn! is a 3 year programme 
(2016-2018) of Simavi which will focus on WASH in schools and
surrounding communities in 3 East-African countries: Tanzania, Kenya and
Uganda. The programme is implemented by seven local partner organizations. The
funding for this programme consists of the revenues of the Dutch Walk for Water
event (Wandelen voor Water) organized by Simavi and the co-funding of DGIS,
through Aqua for All. 
Job Summary: The Knowledge Sharing Officer will oversee the
knowledge management component of the WASH & Learn! Programme to ensure
effective learning, excellent reporting and evidence based advocacy by involved
partner organizations as well as enhancing exchange with relevant WASH networks
and partners.  
Key Duties and Responsibilities: 
1. Strategy Development:
  • Develop a knowledge sharing strategy for the
    WASH & Learn Programme and partners.
  • The incumbent will develop methodologies for
    knowledge creation and knowledge transfer by and to partner and programme
    staff.
  • Responsible for knowledge creation and
    sharing
2. Knowledge creation and
Sharing:
  • In charge of the implementation of knowledge
    sharing strategy and annual plan.
  • Identify learning questions together with
    partners and programme staff based on implementation strategies and
    approaches, internal and donor requirements, FIETS approach (Financial-,
    Institutional-, Environmental-, Technological- and Social sustainability),
    current knowledge and evidence on WASH in Schools approaches i.e. 
  • Coordinate consequent learning trajectories
    with programme partners.
  • Identify areas for advocacy and evidence
    gathering.
  • Manage the collection of required data and
    stories by the programme partners.
  • Responsible for gathering and sharing  relevant information and reports.
  • Responsible for development and dissemination
    of knowledge and advocacy products. 
3. Monitoring and
Evaluation:
  • Coordinate baseline measurement, mid-term
    review and end evaluation of the WASH & Learn Programme.
  • The incumbent will assess programme data to
    measure progress and to identify lessons and additional topics for
    learning and programme improvement.
  • Organize required M&E training to partner
    organizations.
4. Representation and Linkage:
  • Ensure regional visibility of the programme.
  • Represent the WASH & Learn programme on
    national and regional WASH-meetings.
  • Building functional networks with regional
    and national WASH stakeholders (including private sector).
5. Reporting:
  • Work in liaison with the senior programme
    officer assigned to lead the bi-annual narrative report writing to donors,
    including coordination of input from individual partner organizations.
  • Responsible for programme updates, sharing of
    learnings and writing of blogs on AKVO RSR, WASH in Schools website and on
    request of Walk for Water event coordinator.
6. Administration and
Logistics:
  • Development of annual knowledge sharing plan
    and budget.
  • Manage the joint learning budget and ensure
    bi-annual financial reports on this budget line. Support the organization
    of travels, gatherings, meetings and workshops organized in the realm of
    the WASH & Learn Programme.
  • Pro-actively connect with other Simavi (WASH)
    programmes in the region.
Qualifications, Skills and Experience: 
  • The ideal candidate should hold an academic
    degree in relevant subject.
  • At least five years’ working experience in
    knowledge management and PME.
  • Previous exposure and experience with working
    in NGO-sector.
  • Applicants who combine the above mentioned
    requirements for this position with a sound knowledge of WASH and multi
    stakeholder processes have our preference.
  • Excellent communication and writing skills in
    English.
  • Good ICT and Excel skills.
  • Ability to travel regularly between Uganda,
    Tanzania and Kenya.
