About US:
The
Elizabeth Glaser Pediatric AIDS Foundation (EGPAF) seeks to end pediatric
HIV/AIDS through research, advocacy, and prevention and treatment programs. We
are a global leader in the fight against pediatric HIV and AIDS, working in 15
countries and at 7,000 sites around the world to prevent the transmission of
HIV to children, and to help those already infected. Today, because of the
highly successful work of the Foundation and its partners over the last 25
years, pediatric AIDS has been virtually eliminated in the United States and
new infections in children have declined by 58% worldwide. EGPAF Uganda Country
program is currently implementing a number of projects in partnership with
various donors.
About USAID RHITES Project:
The
Elizabeth Glaser Pediatric AIDS Foundation (EGPAF) implements the USAID
Regional Health Integration to Enhance Health Services in the South West Uganda
Project (RHITES) whose aim is to increase the availability, accessibility and
quality of integrated health services including HIV and TB prevention, care and
treatment; maternal, neonatal and child health services; family planning;
nutrition assessment, counseling support; malaria prevention and treatment and
other primary care services.
Job Summary: The Communication and Advocacy Advisor will be in
charge of the design, implementation and evaluation of communication, advocacy
and outreach initiatives which build on EGPAF’s technical expertise and credibility
to increase awareness of and support for prevention of mother-to-child
transmission of HIV and pediatric HIV/AIDS care and treatment. The focus of
these initiatives will be to educate policy makers, opinion leaders, the media,
civil society organizations and the public about pediatric AIDS issues through
partnerships with various civil society and governmental organizations, PEPFAR
partners, and others, including HIV &AIDS networks and forums in Uganda. The
jobholder also provides leadership and technical support to the communication
and outreach program. S/he works with the EGPAF PMTCT and care and treatment
team.
Qualifications, Skills and Experience: 
  • The applicant should have a minimum of five
    years’ experience in HIV advocacy and communication of health programs in
    Uganda.
  • Working knowledge of Uganda national,
    regional and district government structure and operations
  • Working knowledge of existing in-country key
    players in HIV & AIDS related networks or the willingness to acquire
    this knowledge quickly.
  • Significant experience working with an
    international non-profit/non-governmental organization (NGO) preferred
  • Excellent oral and written communication
    skills
  • Good presentation and report writing skills
    in English.
