(SKY) Project
Foundation is an international not-for-profit, non-governmental organization
(NGO) founded in Italy in 1972. Its mission is to promote the dignity of the
person through development cooperation activities, with special attention to
education, according to the social teaching of the Catholic Church. AVSI has
been present in Uganda since 1984, first supporting hospitals and agriculture
projects in Gulu and Kitgum districts, and later expanding around 1990 to
establish the present-day headquarters in Kampala, offices in Pader, Gulu and
Kitgum, and project activities in 12 other districts. AVSI staff has remained
through the long periods of instability in northern Uganda caused both by
anti-government rebellions led by Lord’s Resistance Army, and by conflict
across the northern border in Sudan, which caused displacement in both
countries.
is implementing a 5 year project titled “Skilling Youths for Employment in
Agribusiness (SKY)”. The goal of the intervention is to enhance sustainable
creation of employment of youths in the agribusiness sector. The programme will
achieve this through the following four main objectives:
- Strengthening the capacities of the agri-skills
providers in a sustainable way in order to provide marketable and
employable skilling - Providing pre and post-employment support to
the skilled youths - Creating strategic linkages of agribusiness
for enhanced capacity building through skilling and brokerage - Facilitating Skilling Uganda Authority to be
supportive to agri-skilling in the targeted areas.
- The Agriculture Advisor will work closely
with the agribusinesses and job brokers to design and test work/
entrepreneurship related activities and learning objectives that help
young people to secure jobs or start agribusinesses; - The incumbent will facilitate job shadowing
activities, agri-prenuership training workshops, publications and/or
special career events as needed and assigned in order to increase youth
awareness of job opportunities and to build youth ‘soft skills’ for job readiness
and retention. - Provide labor market and vocational
information to participants and match participants’ skills, aptitude and
abilities to prospective employment openings and make referrals to secure
job placement. - The incumbent will provide outreach services
to market the program and recruit participants. - Offer technical support to agribusinesses in
the implementation of activities that support youth work and
entrepreneurship; - Ensure strong alignment between market
assessment results, learning pathways and youth employment throughout the
project; - Work in liaison with the agro-institutions
and agribusinesses to facilitate internships and practical training
approaches to enhance youth work readiness and entrepreneurship skilling. - Provide support to agribusinesses to carry
out youth on the job skilling activities both in relation to the learning
component and, more specifically, in relation to the
employment/entrepreneurship component.
- The applicant should preferably hold a University
Degree in Agriculture, Agribusiness, Small Business Management or related
field and experience working in an entrepreneurial environment or as
owner/manager of a training or learning firm - A minimum of five years of professional
experience in youth in agribusiness capacity building; - Significant experience in working with public
sector, private sector and agro-training institutes on institutional
development or similar projects will be an asset;
