The overall objective of the IDI is to strengthen health systems with strong
emphasis on Infectious Diseases, through Research and Capacity Development. IDI

Prevention, Care and Treatment; Training, Research and Laboratory services

Diseases Institute (IDI) received funding from Centers for Disease Control and
Prevention (CDC)/PEPFAR to implement a comprehensive HIV/AIDS services in the
mid-western Uganda Districts of Kiboga, Kibaale, Kyankwanzi, Hoima, Masindi,
Buliisa and Kiryandongo. The project is called “Accelerating Comprehensive
HIV/AIDS Service Delivery through Health System Capacity Building and Technical
Assistance of District Health Teams and Health Facilities in Western and West
Nile Regions in the Republic of Uganda under PEPFAR.”

Job Summary: The Medical Officer will also ensure delivery of
quality HIV/AIDS care and treatment services to clients by providing technical
support to the DHTs and health facilities of assigned districts. In addition, the
incumbent will also support health system strengthening interventions in the
supported districts by building capacity of health care workers in
comprehensive HIV/AIDS management.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:
- Coordinate and support training for health
workers in HIV/AIDS care and related fields; - Mentor and supervise the clinicians to build
their skills in the examination, diagnosis and treatment for HIV/AIDS
clients at all facilities; - Offer technical support and HIV/AIDs
specialized support for care for clients in supported districts as
required - Support and coordinate health workers conduct
CME sessions at the facilities to build their capacity in HIV/AIDS
management; - Coordinate and support counselors to
strengthen provision of daily of health education to clients; - Support health workers implement quality
improvement activities in HIV/AIDS related fields; - Provide input in the drawing of Project work
plans and budgets and in their implementation; - Lead and support the other IDI technical
assistance team members (clinical officers, midwives, counsellors and
volunteers) to meet their outputs; - The incumbent will advocate for the rights of
clients through mobilization and referral for support and other means as
and where necessary; and - Perform any other duties as may reasonably be
assigned from time to time by the Field Office Coordinator.
Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
- The applicant for the Infectious Diseases
Institute (IDI) Medical Officer vacancy should preferably hold a Bachelor
of Medicine and Surgery Degree - Completion of Internship
- Full and active registration with the UMDPC
- Additional training in HIV/AIDS care will be
an added advantage - One year of experience after internship in a
busy HIV/AIDS clinical setting. - Broad technical knowledge of HIV/AIDS and ART
- Clinical skills, Counseling skills,
Interpersonal skills - Excellent oral and written communication
skills - Good teamwork skills
- Fluency of the local languages within the
supported districts is desirable.
