About US:
The
Uganda Bureau of Statistics (UBOS) is a semi-autonomous body established by the
Uganda Bureau of Statistics Act, 1998, to promote the production of reliable
official statistics and ensure the development and maintenance of the National
Statistical System (NSS). The mandate of the Bureau is the Production,
Coordination and Dissemination of Official Statistics. The Bureau intends to
conduct the Uganda Demographic and Health Survey VI-2016.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:  
  • The jobholder will use standard equipment to
    measure the height and weight of children, men and women as identified by
    the interviewing team.
  • Test, treat or refer for malaria using Rapid
    Diagnostic Test among children under 5 years.
  • Take a reading of biometric measurements of
    children, men and women.
  • Draw capillary blood from Children under 5
    years and women (15 – 49 years) to establish their haemoglobin and vitamin
    A levels.
  • Draw venous blood from a sub-sample of the
    Children under 5years and women (15–49 years) to be used in quality
    control.
  • The incumbent will store the Dry Blood Spots
    safely till when they are collected by a Supervisor or deposited at the
    collection Centre.
  • Offer timely support to the Interviewers in
    carrying out the household interviews.
Qualifications, Skills and Experience:  
  • The applicants for the Health Technician Jobs
    must hold a Certificate in Nursing or Laboratory Technology
  • Oral Proficiency in at least one of these
    local languages: Ateso, Luganda, Lugbara, Luo, Ngakarimojong, Runyankole –
    Rukiga, Runyoro – Rutoro, Lusoga;
  • The applicant who has previously participated
    in a household-based data collection exercise will have an added advantage
  • Evidence of maturity, friendliness and
    willingness to work away from home during the approximately 1 month’s
    fieldwork;
  • Computer literacy skills
  • Strong numerical and analytical skills
  • Excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Possess excellent communication skills.
  • Team building skills.
