Benedictine Fathers of Uganda offering high quality Eye Care Services and
Comprehensive Community Based Rehabilitation services to persons with
disabilities.
Job Summary: The Ophthalmic Clinical Officer (OCO) has the
overall responsibility to ensure that all eye health activities are
implemented.
Key Duties and Responsibilities: 
  • In charge of treating clients eye diseases in
    Outpatient Department (OPD) and other work stations.
  • Screening patients for operation.
  • Attending and participating in ward rounds
    and Night shifts.
  • In charge of monitoring, guidance and
    supervision to all the Hospital staff to ensure quality work outcome
  • Carry out intra and extra Ocular operations.
  • Increase community health workers’ awareness
    on eye conditions and eye care by conducting primary Eye care trainings.
  • Carry out minor eye surgeries .trachoma
    surgeries and refer complicated cases appropriately
  • Selecting and referring complicated eye
    surgeries to the Ophthalmologist for further management.
  • Carrying out some spherical refraction and
    low Vision Assessments.
  • Ensure that all assessments and treatment
    provided are properly documented in patient files.
  • Should always be available in case of
    emergencies at night.
  • Be innovative/creative and advise management
    on clinical matters.
  • The jobholder will admit to the wards and
    provide quality management for eye in-patients.
  • Maintain equipment in a good condition and
    submit regular inventory reports of the same
  • Keep a complete and accurate inventory of
    medicines, equipment and other supplies in the program.
  • Support the Ophthalmologist in preparation
    and submission of the weekly and monthly activity reports.
  • Perform any other relevant duties as may be required
    or assigned by your supervisor
Qualifications, Skills and Experience: 
  • The applicants for the Ophthalmic Clinical
    Officer (OCO) vacancy should hold a Higher Diploma in Clinical Medicine-
    Ophthalmology/ Cataract surgery.
  • Registered with the Clinical Officers
    Council.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Excellent analytical and problem solving
    skills.
  • Be creative, innovative and sensitive to
    quality.
  • Excellent command of the English language
    (both spoken and written) and must be multilingual.
  • Demonstrated ability to write clear, concise
    reports and well developed communication skills
  • Good computer skills.
  • Must be a team player, flexible and
    culturally sensitive
  • Ready to work in Tororo on full time basis.
  • Good time management skills
  • Age: 24-38 years
