Children’s Villages Uganda is an indigenous non-government, social development
organisation affiliated to SOS Children’s Villages International, a worldwide
child care organisation, currently running Children’s Villages and other
projects in 135 countries around the world. SOS has been working in Uganda
since 1991, and runs Children’s Villages and other projects at Kakiri, Entebbe
(Abaita Ababiri), Gulu and in Fort Portal – Kabarole district.
Job Summary: The Programme Coordinator will coordinate and
facilitate the running of the family strengthening programme in Kakiri.
Key Duties and Responsibilities: 
  • Oversee the planning of the programme’s
    activities according to the needs and priorities of the local community in
    particular, those of orphans and vulnerable children and their families.
  • Carry out regular monitoring and review of
    activities aimed at ensuring that the programme continues to provide
    relevant and quality services that lead to self-reliance of families and
    the community
  • Work closely with the community development
    structures, other NGOs and government departments for effective service
    delivery to programme participants.
  • Facilitate the development, with full
    participation of the supported households to identify appropriate
    individual household IGA/business plan to meet the economic &
    nutritional needs of vulnerable households;
  • Conduct  post IGA & FS training workshop
    evaluation, to state its results at outcome level.
  • Assess identified households for IGA &
    Family Strengthening support to determine their credit-worthiness,
    trainability, reliability and willingness to engage in IGA & Family
    Sstrengthening
  • Offer technical support to the Family
    Strengthening Programme Officers in the preparation of formative research
    designs and identifying responsive indicators.
  • Prepare and submit timely progress reports
    including success stories to the Programme Director or as requested by
    National office on programme interventions.
  • Develop fundable proposals to support orphans
    and vulnerable families within the communities.
Qualifications, Skills and Experience: 
  • The ideal candidate for the Programme
    Coordinator vacancy should hold a University degree in community
    development related social sciences disciplines such as social work,
    sociology, development studies, economics, agriculture, rural development.
    Additional training in project planning and management, M& E systems
    will be an added advantage.
  • A minimum of three years’ experience in
    implementing community development or OVC support programmes.
  • Broad knowledge and understanding of child
    rights, child development, family and community development, rights based
    programming and management of CBOs.
  • Broad understanding and ability to apply
    community development participatory methodologies.
  • Good sociocultural awareness of working in
    vulnerable communities of Kakiri
  • Demonstrated expertise in sampling
    techniques, data collection and analysis with excellent computer skills.
  • Possession of a motor cycle riding license
    (as well as practical experience in riding is an added advantage.
  • Ability to speak and communicate fluently in
    a local language spoken in the location.
