Uganda
is a non-government organization created by Medecins Sans Frontieres (MSF) in
1987 to help improve the quality of its field interventions. Since 1996,
Epicentre has been a World Health Organization (WHO) collaborating centre for
research in epidemiology and response to emerging diseases. Epicentre’s work
hinges around three main activity areas: clinical research, field epidemiology
and training. Medecins Sans Frontieres and Epicentre are planning to conduct a
study in Mbarara District. The study aims at validating a screening tool for
psychological difficulties in young children aged 6 to 36 months.
- The Clinical Psychologist/Research Assistant will read the study protocol and
documents in order to fully understand its requirements. - Actively participate in the translation and
adaptation of the study tools to the local context. - Take part in the implementation of the study
with the epidemiologist and lead psychiatrist, and to organize and
supervise all the study activities (including logistics) thereafter. - Through interview with their caretakers, to
ensure the clinical evaluation of about 100 young children in their place
of residence, in Mbarara district; To report the information collected
during the interview on the study forms; To discuss some child evaluations
with a senior psychiatrist and Paediatriciian referent when necessary and
to refer children in need for appropriate care;. - Ensure confidentiality of the data collected
and the respect of the study participants and communities following
international ethical standards. - Coordinate and supervise the data entry, data
back-up and investigates possible errors in data entry.
- The applicants for the Clinical
Psychologist/Research Assistant vacancy should hold a Bachelor or higher
degree in Psychology. - At least two years of professional experience
as a clinical psychologist in Uganda - Previous experience in childhood mental
health - Certificates of Ethics and Protections of
Human Research Participants and/or GCP is a plus - Previous experience in an NGO is an added
advantage - Strong interest in childhood mental health
and research . - Excellent interpersonal, teamwork and
management skills - Fluent in both English and Runyankore
(written and oral)
