About UCU:

Christian University was founded when the historic Bishop Tucker Theological
College was promoted as a university in 1997. Bishop Tucker Theological College
trained clergy and educators during its 84-year history from 1913-1997. The
local chief, Hamu Mukasa, granted land for the college to operate in Mukono.
International partnerships were part of the College’s missionary history. The
Church Mission Society teamed with Ugandan leaders and others to assure the
College had the necessary intellectual and other capital. By the late 1990s,
the Church of Uganda sought to have a broader impact on society through the
higher education – not only of clergy but of other professionals as well.
Uganda Christian University was established in 1997.
Key Duties and Responsibilities: 
  • Provide professional leadership and guidance
    in the planning for development and implementation of academic programs
  • The incumbent will ensure the achievement of
    academic excellence through admission of students with required entry
    qualifications.
  • Oversee the research and consultancy of the
    UCU constituent college
  • Provide quality education by ensuring that
    all students admitted have the required qualification for various courses
  • Coordinate curriculum development for all
    programmes and courses taught in consultation with Heads of Departments.
  • The incumbent will implement all academic
    policies and procedures approved by the council.
  • Ensure safe custody of all documents and data
    relating to admissions.
  • Manage the preparation of time-tables for lectures
    in different departments
  • Ensure timely preparation and setting of
    examinations, examination time-tables and conduct of examinations
  • Ensure that there is no examination leakage
    or malpractice and results released according to approved schedule.
  • Coordinate the marking of examinations and
    making arrangements to have external examiners.
  • Ensure that all results are approved by the
    senate before they are released.
  • Maintain a databank of all results for the
    students
  • Offer secretarial services to the Board and
    its committees.
  • Organize graduation ceremonies for both
    graduate and Diploma students
  • Appraise performance of Heads of Department
    and other staff in the department in consultation with Human Resource
    Department
  • Perform any other official duties assigned by
    the supervisor from time to time
Qualifications, Skills and Experience: 
  • The ideal candidate should preferably hold a Master’s
    Degree in any relevant field.
  • A minimum of five years’ experience in a
    similar position in an institution of higher learning.
  • The applicant should be a good team leader
    with strong administrative, organizational and planning skills
  • Demonstrate high standards of integrity,
    ethics, objective judgment and independence
  • Highly self-driven
  • Must be mature and a practicing Christian,
    preferably an Anglican
