About MRC:
The
Medical Research Council/ Uganda Virus Research Institute (MRC/UVRI) based at
the Uganda Virus Research Institute in Entebbe is a bilateral
multi-disciplinary research organization funded by, the Medical Research
Council (UK) and Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) in Uganda
under the U.S. President’s Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR) and other
donor agencies. Established in 1988, the MRC/UVRI Uganda Research Unit on AIDS
is an internationally recognized center of excellence for research on HIV
infection and related diseases, contributing knowledge on the revolving epidemic,
the evaluation of innovative health care options, treatment and prevention, and
the development of health policy and practice in Africa and worldwide.
Job Summary: The Health
and Safety / Security Coordinator will primarily ensure sustainable strategic
and operational development of Health, Safety, Security and Business Continuity
underpinning and supporting the delivery of high quality scientific research.
Qualifications, Skills and Experience: 
  • The ideal candidate should preferably hold a degree
    in a related field from a recognised institution with additional training
    in health and Safety/ security.
  • A minimum of three years’ experience as a
    Health and safety/security coordinator in a large local or international
    organisation.
  • Previous experience in a scientific research
    organisation will be an added advantage.
  • Prior exposure and experience overseeing
    security for a large industrial or scientific research organisation.
  • Previous experience of writing procedures,
    drafting reports, preparing business cases.
  • Personal integrity and flexibility.
  • Strong management and leadership skills
    together with excellent communication, influencing, negotiating and
    engagement skills.
