in Malawi, Rwanda, Uganda, the United States, and Zambia.

years, in nearly 100 countries, and has empowered health workers to better
serve communities in need. IntraHealth fosters local solutions to health care
challenges by improving health worker performance, strengthening health
systems, harnessing technology, and leveraging partnerships. IntraHealth has
been working in Uganda for over 25 years. The current project, the USAID-funded
Strengthening Human Resources for Health Activity, works to strengthen the
capacities of ministries, districts, professional councils, and private
not-for-profit organizations to better plan and manage the health workforce for
improved health outcomes. This is achieved through three main result areas:
Increased
and equitable recruitment, deployment, and retention of health workers
Improved
health worker performance at all levels
Improved
pre-service training to meet the needs of Uganda
work closely with the Senior Advisor for Pre Service Training on the third
result area of the project, which focuses on improving the quality of pre
service training (PST) of health workers and increasing the production of critical
health cadres in short supply to ensure that training is responsive to the gaps
in the health workforce labor market that impact the effective delivery of
health services. The incumbent will use the outcomes of current studies and
work on the health workforce market, the training capacity of institutions, and
the analysis of cadres in critical short-supply to develop training models and
training strategies. The job holder will innovate ideas and approaches to
rationalizing the output from health training institutions. He / she will also work
with the pre service education team on curriculum review and innovating
training approaches.
Keenly
analyze results of studies on the health workforce labor market and training
capacities to project how many health workers from each cadre can/should be
produced to close gaps in health service delivery
Project
the health worker skills mix necessary to fill the needs in health service
delivery
Technically
support the Pre Service Training Team in documentation of results
Actively
participate in curriculum review to ensure that health worker curricula are
adequately addressing the actual needs in health service delivery
Experience:
The
ideal candidate for the Global Health Corps Pre-Service Training Officer vacancy
should preferably hold an advanced degree in education, health, public health,
or social science field related to human resources for health
Previous
exposure and experience in curriculum review and development
Prior
experience assessing training programs
Applied
skills and experience in data quality analysis
Prior
experience planning and implementing activities
Familiarity
with the Uganda health care system, the Ministry of Health, district government,
and other development organizations in Uganda is an added advantage
Previous
experience implementing or managing health training
Show
commitment and record of achievement to building the capacity of local partners
Prior
experience with open-source software packages is desired
Excellent
communication and leadership skills
Conceptual
thinker with excellent organizational skills, time management skills and
attention to detail

to travel within the country

Computer
literacy skills with proficiency in MS office applications including Word,
Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook
health insurance and a living stipend of $550/month. Additionally, fellows will
receive an award of $1500 upon successful completion of the fellowship year.
Flights to and from the placement site and all other costs associated with GHC
programming are included, including $600 in professional development funds.
Housing for fellows at IntraHealth will be arranged at or near the placement
site in Kampala, an urban center. Fellow
should be open to travel within Uganda.
The living stipend and completion award may be paid out in USD or local
currency, as determined by the placement organization.
