Officer Media Relations
established by an Act of Parliament; The Uganda National Authority Act, No.
15 of 2006. UNRA became operational on 1st July 2008. The mandate of UNRA is to develop and maintain
the national roads network, advise Government on general roads policy and
contribute to addressing of transport concerns, among others.
Media Relations will be responsible for implementing media and communication
strategies to enhance the reputation of UNRA. The job holder will compile information
from the respective directorates, and formulate stories, articles, on different
aspects of UNRA to be disseminated to the public. H/She will develop information
gathering tools to get feedback from the public and coordinate different
media related activities from time to time.
- In charge of maintaining an
events calendar, booking press events, and compiling information on
UNRA for display on screens throughout the Institution, and on the web
for staff and public access; - Produce background briefings and
prepare spokespeople for Interviews, and co-ordinate media interviews
and filming requests; - Identify and exploit PR
opportunities to maximise UNRA’s work, from news to feature items, to
relevant targeted sector specific media issues; - Quickly respond to crisis
communications to mitigate negative coverage and effectively responded
to, including production of holding and position statements prior to
any media events and interests; - In charge of coordinating major
projects and campaigns, film crews and production units and monitoring
press coverage and distributing information to staff. - Updating and maintaining a media
database with key media contacts and measuring and evaluating all PR
activities. - Conduct research internally on
topical issues, including background research, interviews, UNRA News,
communicate findings and make position statements to relevant
departments in line with the communications guidelines; - Maintain and keep UNRA’s photo
library up-to-date, in conjunction with UNRA’s events manager in line
with PR guidelines. - Perform any other duties as
assigned by the Senior Officer Media Relations.
Experience:
- The applicant for the UNRA
Officer Media Relations job vacancy should hold an Honor’s Bachelor’s
Degree in Marketing and Mass Communication or any other related field; - Possession of any other post
graduate qualifications in marketing or Mass Communication is an added
advantage; - At least three years of professional
corporate experience in a highly reputable organization; - Prior experience in Media and
Public relations in a corporate organisation; - Excellent communication and
interpersonal skills - Good team player
- Ability to work as part of a team
and to develop subordinates; - Excellent interpersonal,
particularly staff/management relations, oral and written
communication skills; - Demonstrated ability to work and
produce accurate results in an environment with multiple and
challenging tasks; - Computer literacy skills
