Action Africa Help International (AAIN) became Aktion Africa Hilfe e. V (AAH)
and was registered in Munich, Germany from where our founders in 2003 moved the
organisation’s headquarters to Kenya. AAH-I now works with refugees, host communities
and other marginalized and vulnerable groups in Kenya, Uganda, Somalia and
South Sudan, where it operates across a range of sectors that seek to bridge
relief to development.
UNHCR Project:
Help Uganda (AAH Uganda) has been receiving funding from the United Nations
High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) to implement programmes in the Districts
of Hoima (Kyangwali Refugee Settlement), Adjumani District and Kampala.
Summary: The Livelihoods Coordinator will provide sector leadership, technical
support and advice to the Kyangwali Refugee Settlement Programme on livelihoods
strategy, programme design, implementation, monitoring and evaluation as well
as stakeholder and donor relations, in order to achieve the overall objective
of creating self-reliant refugee communities. The Livelihoods Coordinator will
mainly ensure timely achievement of activities through developing innovative
approaches that lead to self-reliance of refugee communities in a manner that
conforms to standards of performance set by AAH Uganda, and in compliance with
donor requirements and active involvement in the overall Country Office
resource mobilisation
Duties and Responsibilities:
Provide line management leadership to a team of
staff in agriculture production, business entrepreneurship, natural resource
management and sustainable energy use.
Oversee the preparation of Sector annual operating
plan and budgets and execute the sector work plans.
Build and maintain linkages with the District and
Sub-county Production Departments, Bulindi ZARDI, farmer-based organisations,
the private sector and other relevant institutions to promote innovations and technology
uptake.
Identify and liaise with a range of local and
national stakeholders to secure partners to support initiatives that increase
production, skills and markets.
Build strong linkages and integration with other
intervention sectors – Health & Nutrition, Education, Gender & Community
Services as a member of the Programme Management Team (PMT), participate in PMT
meetings at Programme and National levels.
Represent AAH at key sector meetings, forums and
events with government and other organizations, and promote advocacy around
food, agribusiness, natural resource, youth and gender issues.
Significantly contribute to proposal writing and
grant acquisition efforts of AAH Uganda
Actively promote cross-learning, training, best
practices and sharing of experience within the sector.
Ensure quality control through monitoring and
evaluating of programs and ensuring that objectives are achieved and that
indicators are measured throughout the program life cycle.
Prepare, consolidate and submit timely monthly,
quarterly and annual Livelihoods Sector reports.
Skills and Experience:
The applicant for the UNHCR AAH Livelihoods
Coordinator employment vacancy should hold a Bachelor’s degree in Agribusiness,
Agriculture, Natural Resource Management community development or closely
related discipline
Possession of a Master’s degree in agriculture, Development
Studies, Project Planning & Management, community development, natural
resource management or closely related discipline
At least five (5) years’ experience in managing
livelihoods programmes in emergency and development context with an international
development organization managing agricultural/livelihoods projects under
complex operating environments.
Significant experience in vocational training, SME
development, nutrition, community microfinance methodologies and emergency
planning
Previous experience of proposal writing, log-frame
development and donor reporting.
Demonstrated practical project management
experience covering all aspects of the project cycle from design through to
evaluation.
Strong project management experience and familiarity
with Uganda’s agriculture and natural resources systems
Demonstrated ability to conduct situational
analysis and write concept notes and project proposals
Proven ability to build capacity, develop others
and work across programme sectors
Excellent analytical skills and fluent writing
skills.
Excellent IT skills including strong knowledge of
MS Word applications
Excellent communications, interpersonal and
training skills and track record of building/developing cohesive teams.
Ability to ride motorcycle, with a valid rider
permit
