Uganda National Roads Authority (UNRA) was established by an Act of Parliament;
The Uganda National Authority Act, No. 15 of 2006. UNRA became operational on
1st July 2008. The mandate of UNRA is to
develop and maintain the national roads network, advise Government on general
roads policy and contribute to addressing of transport concerns, among others.
Geotechnical data
tests and analyses, reviewing quality of ground support systems and slope
designs and making recommendations on ground support systems. The Geotechnical
Specialist will also be responsible for reviewing ground conditions to ensure
that unforeseen situations are detected at an early stage to enable corrective
design and construction measures to be implemented. In addition, the incumbent will
support the design of built structures using specialized computer software or
calculations.
- Plan detailed field investigations in line
with departmental standards and targets; - Conduct independent Geotechnical investigations
in line with departmental standards and targets; - Conduct reviews and quality assurance on
geotechnical reports submitted by external Service Providers in line with
departmental standards; - Perform regular reviews on ground conditions
during design in line with departmental guidelines and standards; - Assess the materials to be used for each
project in line with departmental guidelines and standards; - Responding to audit reports in line with
departmental guidelines and standards; - Develop a risk matrix and put in place risk
mitigation measures in the Geotechnical area; - Actively participate in Planning, budgeting
and reporting in line with departmental guidelines and targets. - Perform any other duties as assigned by the Geotechnical
Engineer
- The applicant for the UNRA Geotechnical
Specialist job vacancy should hold an Honors Degree in Civil Engineering,
Geology, or related field; - Professional registration with the ERB or
relevant Association of professional engineers in the commonwealth
countries is a must; - Possession of Post Graduate qualifications in
Civil Engineering, Geology, or other relevant field will be an added advantage; - At least five years’ experience in Geotechnical
investigations for roads and bridges. - Working knowledge in the design of built
structures using specialized computer software. - Computer literacy skills
- High level of integrity;
- Proven track record of outstanding
performance; - Excellent interpersonal, particularly
staff/management relation skills - Excellent oral and written communication
skills.
