University Walter Reed Project (MUWRP) is a non-profit HIV research program
that was established in 2002 as a result of a memorandum of understanding
between Makerere University and The Henry M. Jackson foundation for Advancement
of Military Medicine Inc. of USA (HJF). The primary purpose of MUWRP is to
develop, evaluate and provide interventions to mitigate disease threats of
public health importance to Uganda. Activities include; vaccine development and
building of vaccine testing capability in Uganda, conducting of epidemiological
and basic research and provision of HIV Treatment, care and support in Kayunga,
Mukono and Buvuma Districts.
Summary: The Data Management Officer will manage all data for the Makerere
University / Walter Reed Project (MUWRP).
The incumbent’s primary responsibility will be to assist in all data
management issues for MUWRP research studies.
Duties and Responsibilities:
The job holder will maintain and designs databases
to meet project related goals
Attends study and departmental meetings as
required.
Write Standard Operating Procedures for Data
Management
Provide other related duties as required to
accomplish the objectives of the position.
Updates and maintains tracking databases for
volunteer referrals, screening and enrollment.
Provides protocol specific volunteer visit
schedules
Ensures acquisition, filing and management of
required clinical and laboratory study data.
Mentors and supervises data entry staff
Conducts Quality Assurance checks.
Ensures regular transfer of study data.
Prepares and submits reports/data request as
required.
Designs databases to meet project related goals.
Actively participates in manual data entry if
needed.
Skills and Experience:
The Data Management Officer should hold a Degree
in Statistics specializing in database management or related field is required.
At least two years relevant experience.
Knowledgeable of HIV vaccine research and current
research studies at MUWRP.
Highly organized, detail-oriented and
self-motivated.
Ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously.
Ability to work on own initiative.
Ability to professionally communicate in writing
and verbally or other means deemed appropriate.
Ability to travel within the work site and its
surrounding areas, and field stations in Kayunga, Mukono and Buvuma Islands.
Fluency in verbal and written English
