Center for
Communication Programs (CCP) is working with the Ugandan Ministry of Health
(MOH), Uganda Cancer Society, American Cancer Society, and other organizations
working in cancer prevention, detection, treatment and support to develop
communication materials for cancer patients and their caregivers. American Cancer Society has developed
materials for North American audiences, but they need to be adapted to the
Ugandan context and the communication needs of Ugandan cancer patients. As a first step, we would like to learn more
about the cancer communication needs of patients, caregivers, community
volunteers and health workers and the types of communication materials that they
prefer. To do this, CCP will conduct 16 in-depth interviews and 3 focus group
discussions with cancer patients, their family members, counselors/outreach
workers, and health workers providing cancer treatment and palliative care
services.
