Ferry Services
established by an Act of Parliament; The Uganda National Authority Act, No.
15 of 2006. UNRA became operational on 1st July 2008. The mandate of UNRA is to develop and
maintain the national roads network, advise Government on general roads
policy and contribute to addressing of transport concerns, among others.
Ferry Engineer will be responsible for the timely maintenance and repair
support interventions to ferries countrywide. This will involve ensuring
that the Ferry components are effectively repaired from the ferry sites or
from the workshop/service providers and delivered to the ferry crossings.
The Ferry Engineer will also assist the Head Ferry Services in resource
planning, resource budgeting, implementation of OHS standards, among
others.
- Take part in the planning and
budgeting in line with departmental guidelines and targets; - Ensures timely response to calls
for repair interventions at ferry sites and keeps standby components
available for immediate deployment; - Takes part in contract management
of outsourced ferry related services and inputs/consumables; - Implements effective and
efficient repair interventions in a businesslike and cost effective
manner and in accordance with modern management practices - Ensures occupational, health and
safety procedures in line with departmental standards and guidelines. - Maintains comprehensive physical
and computerized workshop records system including history files, Job
cards, asset registers, repair costs, repair consumables, among
others. - Quickly respond to audit reports
and implement agreed recommendations within specified time frames; - Significantly contributes to
regular and ad hoc reports as required; - Manage the performance and
development of staff in the unit in line with the performance
management system of UNRA. - Perform any other duties as
assigned by the Head Ferry Services
Experience:
- The applicant for the UNRA Ferry
Engineer (Workshop)job vacancy should hold an Degree in
Marine/Nautical Science, Mechanical Engineering, or any other relevant
qualification; - At least three years’ experience
in ferries operations or marine services. - Computer literacy skills
- High levels of integrity;
- Ability to work as part of a team
and to develop subordinates; - Excellent interpersonal,
particularly staff/management relation skills - Excellent oral and written
communication skills; - Ability to manage/supervise multi
skilled teams and deliver accurate results in a timely manner and in
an environment with multiple and challenging tasks.
