Uganda National Roads Authority (UNRA) was established by an Act of Parliament;

1st July 2008. The mandate of UNRA is to
develop and maintain the national roads network, advise Government on general
roads policy and contribute to addressing of transport concerns, among others.

Job Summary: The Ferry Engineer (Operations) will oversee the
operations and maintenance of the ferry services and facilities countrywide.
This will involve ensuring that the ferry route schedule to ensure that the planned
routes are implemented, maintaining the ferry, landing sites, offices, staff
quarters, waiting shades and ensuring safety of equipment, passengers and
transit traffic. The Ferry Engineer will also assist the Head Ferry Services in
resource planning, resource budgeting, development of ferry infrastructure,
among others.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:
- Ensuring routine/preventive and periodic
maintenance of ferries in line with departmental guidelines and standards. - Maintain the ferry landing site and
facilities in line departmental standards - In charge of monitoring of occupational,
health and safety procedures in line with departmental standards and
guidelines. - Develop risk matrix and put in place risk
mitigation measures in the area of traffic and road safety; - Quickly respond to audit reports and
implement agreed recommendations within specified time frames; - Actively participate in planning, budgeting
and reporting in line with departmental guidelines and targets; - Keen review of performance and data from
Ferry Monitoring equipment/systems and prepares reports; - Actively participates in contract management
of outsourced ferry related services; - Mentor and supervise the performance and
development of staff in the unit in line with the performance management
system of UNRA. - Perform any other duties as assigned by the Head
Ferry Services
Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
- The applicant for the UNRA Ferry Engineer (Operations)job
vacancy should hold a Degree in Marine/Nautical Science, Mechanical
Engineering, or any other relevant qualification; - At least three years’ experience in ferries
operations or marine services. - High levels of integrity;
- Computer literacy skills
- Ability to work as part of a team and to
develop subordinates; - Excellent interpersonal, particularly
staff/management relation skills - Excellent oral and written communication
skills; - Ability to manage/supervise multi skilled
teams and deliver accurate results in a timely manner and in an
environment with multiple and challenging tasks.
