University Walter Reed Project (MUWRP) is a non-profit HIV research program
that was established in 2002 as a result of a memorandum of understanding
between Makerere University and The Henry M. Jackson foundation for Advancement
of Military Medicine Inc. of USA (HJF). The primary purpose of MUWRP is to
develop, evaluate and provide interventions to mitigate disease threats of
public health importance to Uganda. Activities include; vaccine development and
building of vaccine testing capability in Uganda, conducting of epidemiological
and basic research and provision of HIV Treatment, care and support in Kayunga,
Mukono and Buvuma Districts.
Summary: The Research Assistant will support the Makerere University Walter
Reed Project Principal Investigator in the field data collection for various IE
studies.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Responsible for interviewing and collecting data
form participants in the field using study tools
Provide pre and post-test HIV counselling for the
study participants
Appropriately refer participants with any positive
result from the test that will be performed during the study.
Follow up of the study participants in the
community at the required follow up period.
Maintenance and safety of the study materials and
equipment
Work closely with the field supervisor to generate
daily study reports
Understand, adhere and promote to MUWRP-PEPFAR compliance
standards as they appear in the HR policy manual, Code of Conduct, and Conflict
of Interest Policy.
Perform any other responsibilities as assigned by
the field supervisor, study coordinator or principal investigator.
Skills and Experience:
The ideal candidates for the Research Assistant
Careers should be enrolled nurses or a hold a diploma in social works and
administration.
Prior experience in field research is desired
Prior experience in data collection and data
quality control
Additional training in Good clinical practice
would an advantage
Have training and experience in counselling
skills.
Good computer skills and comfortable in using
word, excel and power point
The applicants must be hard working and good team
players
Good leadership and communication skills
Previous experience working with HIV research
institution
Fluent in spoken Luganda, and spoken and written
English
