Programme:
consortia with GOAL, VSO and Restless Development, the Driving Youth-led New
Agribusiness and Microenterprise (DYNAMIC) program which will strengthen
systems and facilitate creation of sustainable economic opportunities for
disadvantaged youth. The goal is to increase the number of youth in secure
employment/self-employment and to promote agricultural market systems for
youth. DYNAMIC will reach 125,000 out-of-school youth aged 15–24 in eight
districts of northern Uganda over five years.
–Agricultural Engineering will assess the needs and build the technical and
institutional capacity of staff within vocational training institutes to deliver
market relevant agricultural related trainings and services to youth so they
can access employment as part of the MasterCard funded DYNAMIC project.
Input into the assessment conducted by the DYNAMIC
consortium to select VTIs that the best fit the needs of the project.
Steer the implementation of the capacity building
plan (this can be directly through on-the-job training, coaching and mentoring
as well as identifying appropriate resource person(s) within DYNAMIC consortium
or external resource persons as needed)
Conduct an assessment of the organisational and
technical capacity needs of VTIs in location and jointly with the VTI develop a
capacity building plan
Strengthen the capacity of VTIs in location to
assess the agriculture related market
Work closely with VTIs in location to review and
adapt training curricula and develop appropriate training modules according to
outcomes of market assessment(s)
Strengthen capacity of VTIs to deliver quality,
market driven and relevant agricultural related trainings to youth
(participatory and learner centred training approaches; data tracking and
recording of learners’ achievements / progress etc)
Render support in the development and implementation
of entrepreneurship and other core skills as required by the VTIs.
Work with VTIs to develop mechanisms for placing
youth graduates into jobs; establish market linkages; offering post training
support and track employment after graduation
Work with VTIs to adapting facilities and courses to
overcome gender and disabled specific barriers to youth accessing trainings and
employment.
Experience:
The ideal candidate should preferably hold a relevant
degree in the field of agricultural engineering or other related degree
At least three years’ work experience in a relevant
field
Vocational teaching skills and experience in related
field
Lesson planning and class/course development skills
Significant experience of developing and introducing
new systems/courses connected with low tech agri-engineering
(manufacture/repair of high impact, low cost intermediate technology tools,
equipment and machines)
Past exposure and experience of working with/training
low capacity teams
Proven coaching and mentoring skills
Effective communications skills (including IT skills
and report writing)
Be a self-starter
Cultural sensitivity
Motorbike skills or a willingness to learn
Building and Sustaining working
relationships: The social skills to build and actively maintain
working relationships that foster teamwork and collaboration with others for
the benefit of a common goal.
