Diseases Institute (IDI) is an international non-profit organization which is a
partnership of infectious diseases and public health specialists. The overall
objective of the IDI is to strengthen health systems with strong emphasis on
Infectious Diseases, through Research and Capacity Development. IDI has five
operational areas through which it works to achieve its mission: Prevention,
Care and Treatment; Training, Research and Laboratory services (provided
through a partnership with the Makerere University – John Hopkins University
Core Lab) and Outreach.
Diseases Institute (IDI) has received funding from Centers for Disease Control and
Prevention (CDC) to implement a 5 year project “Global Health Security Partner Engagement:
Expanding Efforts and Strategies to Protect and Improve Public Health Globally.”
CDC under Global Health Security Agenda (GHSA) seeks to accelerate progress
toward a world safe and secure from infectious disease threats and to promote
global health security as an international security priority in three key
areas:
Preventing and reducing the likelihood of outbreaks
—natural, accidental, or intentional.
Detecting threats early saves lives.
Rapid, effective response requires multi-sectoral,
international coordination and communication.
Manager/HMIS Specialist will provide support to the M&E Specialist in
coordinating activities and oversee the operations of data collection, entry,
analysis, and quality assurance. The incumbent will act as the point of contact
for all the project data produced at the different projects sites and ensure
that data for all the project objectives is collected. The incumbent will carry
out analysis and interpretation of data and when required to meet project needs
and will support the project lab management information system set-up and
regular maintenance.
In collaboration with the M&E specialist:
Determines data needed to be collected and the
appropriate data resources for specific health data projects and formulates,
implements, and enforces proper data collection policies and procedures
Makes sure that quality data collection techniques
are established for reporting agencies
Educates and trains implemented and reporting
agencies on proper data collection and analysis processes
In collaboration with the IDI IT department:
Manages contract with data management software
vendors and ensures data system is operational
Renders support to the reporting agencies with set
up, testing, and implementation of data management software and troubleshoots
data submission errors and data error issues and ensures that all software
updates are properly installed and rolled out
Provides line supervision for data management staff and prepares reports and
monthly summaries as requested
Experience:
The ideal candidate should preferably hold a Bachelor’s
Degree in Statistics, Quantitative Economics, Computer Science, Mathematics or
related field with a computing bias. Advanced degree in computer science or
computer related field will be an added advantage.
At least five years of progressive experience in
data management and systems development, especially in health sector
Past exposure and experience in the analysis and
reporting/ presentation of data for both research and capacity programme
decision-making
Good report writing and presentation skills
Computer literacy skills i.e. proficiency in
Microsoft Word, Power point, spreadsheets, and relational database design
qualified and interested candidates should hand deliver an application letter
