Strengthening Partnerships, Results and Innovations in Nutrition Globally
(SPRING) Project is a five-year cooperative agreement funded by the United
States Agency for International Development (USAID) and managed by JSI Research
& Training Institute Inc. with partners, Helen Keller International, the
Manoff Group, Save the Children, and the International Food Policy Research
Institute (IFPRI). SPRING’s overarching
vision is to reduce under-nutrition, prevent stunting, and work with women of
reproductive age and children aged 6-23 months on reducing anemia. SPRING aims
to strengthen country efforts to scale up high-impact nutrition practices and
policies to improve maternal and child nutrition outcomes.
Summary: The Finance Assistant plays a
focal role in supporting the SPRING UGANDA accounting function in order to
ensure timely and accurate reporting of SPRING UGANDA financial and accounting
information.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Ensure safe custody of an adequate petty cash
float, to be issued in accordance with SPRING UGANDA policies and procedures.
Prepare payment vouchers and cheques, code and
post all financial transactions in QuickBooks.
In charge of cash disbursements during Trainings and
other Technical activities.
Photocopy all vouchers, back-up documentation and
cheques as soon as the transactions are entered into quick books.
Follow up with HR to ensure that timesheets are on
time in support of the payroll voucher.
Arrange vouchers for dispatch to Home Office along
with other Quick Books reports.
Ensure that that all original documents are
photocopied before they are dispatched to Washington.
Follow up financial transactions with outside
agencies & vendors as necessary.
Offer technical support in reviewing staff
Accountabilities and forward them for second review to Senior Finance Officer.
Assist the Senior Finance Officer during the
Filing and submission of statutory payroll deductions (PAYE, NSSF, LST etc)
Provide back up support in alerting staff for
their pending travel Advances and the need for them to account as soon as the
activity is completed.
Perform any other duties assigned by the Senior
Finance Officer.
Skills and Experience:
The applicants for the Finance Assistant career
opportunity must hold a University degree in Business Studies or commerce
(Finance or Accounting option) or Professional Qualifications at level 2 of:
ACCA, CPA, etc.
A minimum of two years working experience in financial
management.
Computer literacy skills i.e. proficient with
Quick Books (Mandatory), Excel and other MS office Packages
Previous experience in accounting for International
Donors program funds
Familiarity with USAID regulations and procedures
desirable but not mandatory
Financial/accounting background
Excellent written and oral communication skills
Excellent interpersonal skills
Proven ability to pay attention to detail (Strong
Analytical skills)
Strong teamwork team work skills
