About UDHA:
Uganda Development and Health
Associates (UDHA) is a service provision organization dedicated to serving the
poor and vulnerable members of Ugandan society. UDHA uses a multi-sector and
professional approach with strong community participation and ownership for the
enhancement of health, rights and development initiatives. UDHA community-based
interventions focus on HIV/AIDS, maternal and child health, advocacy, and
youth.
Job Summary: The
Advocacy and Communications Fellow will spearhead, guide, and implement
advocacy activities for UDHA and targeted communities aimed at both communities
and government.
Key Duties and Responsibilities: 
  • Build
    and maintain working relationships with influential organizations and
    networks to advocate for desired policy change
  • Develop
    materials describing key advocacy issues for institutional and public
    audiences
  • Support
    in formulation of advocacy proposals for funding
  • Actively
    facilitate advocacy events working with a wide range of stakeholders
  • Manage
    advocacy components of all projects in the organization
  • Represent
    the organization in advocacy forums at local and national level
  • Prepare
    monthly, quarterly and annual reports of advocacy activities that
    contribute to the accomplishment of UDHA’s goals
Qualifications, Skills and Experience: 
  • The
    GHC fellow should have some experience and understanding of local and
    national policy change processes
  • Prior
    experience in public relations and partnership management
  • Significant
    experience with proposal development and writing technical reports
  • Ability
    to work in rural settings
  • Excellent
    analytical and decision-making skills
  • Relevant
    experience in communications, advocacy and/or marketing
  • Possess
    the ability to work in a team environment with self-sufficiency and
    self-motivation
  • Strong
    interpersonal skills coupled with excellent communication skills: verbal,
    written, listening, presentation and facilitation
  • Ability
    to multi-task: flexible and capable of working under pressure and tight
    deadlines with demonstrated ability to prioritize across multiple projects
    and relationships
  • Ability
    to work under pressure
Job Terms and Conditions:
Fellows will be provided with housing, health insurance and a living stipend of
$550/month. Additionally, fellows will receive an award of $1500 upon
successful completion of the fellowship year. Flights to and from the placement
site and all other costs associated with GHC programming are included,
including $600 in professional development funds. Housing will be arranged in
Iganga.
Note: The living stipend
and completion award may be paid out in USD or local currency, as determined by
the placement organization.
