in 2009 as a social impact investor and project developer operating exclusively
in the agriculture sector in Africa. Our mission is to reduce poverty and
improve food security. We do this by investing in farming, food processing and
marketing enterprises, which have the potential to make a major positive social
impact. We also provide technical support and specialist agricultural advice to
management teams. Over the past five years, AgDevCo has grown to become a
leading investor in the African SME agriculture sector, with headquarters in London
and offices in Mozambique, Tanzania, Ghana, Malawi, Zambia and Uganda (opened
in Sept’ 15). We have committed over $50 million in 47 companies since our
inception.
Job Summary:  The analyst will provide support to the
in-country AgDevCo team, helping identify, analyse and structure, and support
prospective investments and play a supporting role in project development.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:  
1.
Country-specific portfolio management and investment:
·        
Governance support (e.g. team meetings, preparation
for board meetings, AGMs).
·        
Programme administration including meeting minute-taking,
tracking project expenditure against budget for individual investments, and
weekly country cashflows.
·        
The incumbent will carry out impact monitoring of
specific investments including review of quarterly financial statements
provided by sponsors, annual M&E form completed by sponsors and aggregation
of country-level impact for comparison against logframe targets.
·        
Render support in the development of AgDevCo’s financial
models, including for new investments, working and collaborating with other
team members and investees. In addition, providing an independent review for
others’ financial models.
·        
Carry out market research, finding and analysing data
on market dynamics to support investment decisions.
·        
Offer support in the investment due-diligence process
for investments. For specific investments, this may include more detailed assessment
of past performance, analysis of opportunities, forecasting of financial
performance and assessment of management capabilities.
·        
Provide timely project support to include creation
of PIM/pitch documents, project development agreements (e.g. shareholders
agreement, loan documents, etc.) and on-going project support.
·        
Prepare and present investment materials for
consideration by AgDevCo’s Senior Management Team and Board of Directors, as well
as third party investors and partners.
2.
Supporting Corporate functions:
·        
Produce marketing documents for brochures and the
website.
·        
Programme support such as tracking investments,
monitoring and evaluation of project performance at an individual investment, country-wide
and portfolio-wide level. M&E document preparation and review for both
internal and external audiences.
·        
Responsible for the preparation and submission of
reports to funders, the Investment Committee and Board.
·        
Work with in-house legal, finance, impact and
country teams to manage workflows.
·        
Refining policies and procedures where appropriate
and producing standard AgDevCo templates.
Qualifications, Skills and Experience:  
·        
The applicant should possess a minimum 2:1 or second
class upper degree in a Business related subject including accounting and
economics (Master’s preferable);
·        
Two years’ experience in investment bank, business
advisory, private equity modelling experience (ideally project finance/cash
flow lending modelling);
·        
Excellent quantitative, written, presentation and
communication skills; ability to present arguments and analysis in a structured
and succinct manner
·        
Strong finance and accounting knowledge;
·        
Possess the ability to work independently;
self-starter and highly motivated;
·        
Agribusiness knowledge is desired
·        
The Analyst should possess excellent finance and
analytical skills. Candidates will have an interest in international development
and impact investing.
·        
Strong project finance / PE modelling skills for more
senior roles.
·        
We are looking for an individual who demonstrates
the potential to develop within AgDevCo to become an Investment Manager with
responsibility for individual investments.
