In-Charge/Medical Team Leader
Diseases Institute (IDI) is an international non-profit organization which is a
partnership of infectious diseases and public health specialists. The overall
objective of the IDI is to strengthen health systems with strong emphasis on
Infectious Diseases, through Research and Capacity Development. IDI has five
operational areas through which it works to achieve its mission: Prevention,
Care and Treatment; Training, Research and Laboratory services (provided
through a partnership with the Makerere University – John Hopkins University
Core Lab) and Outreach.
partnership with its funders and other stakeholders has received funding to
roll out a new pilot project aimed at scaling up pediatric and Adolescent HIV
care in the three districts of Kampala, Hoima and Kibaale over a two year
period. It is hoped that this will in turn help close the pediatric
Antiretroviral Therapy gap and improve HIV services for pediatric and
adolescent clients.
Counselors will provide technical support on psycho- social interventions to
selected facilities including offering quality counseling services to pediatric
and adolescent clients, their families and community members. The incumbent
will also provide pediatric ART services and offer home based counseling and
testing among other roles.
Mentor and train HCWs in provision of quality
comprehensive pediatric and adolescent HCT services
Support PICT for eligible pediatric and adolescent
clients at the OPD, in-patient wards, and special clinics and at outreaches.
Render support in the identification, ART
initiation, monitoring and follow up of pediatric and adolescent clients
diagnosed at the facility.
Support HFs in setting up and maintaining peer
support groups including adolescent support groups, post-test clubs, and family
support groups as well as facilitating caregiver meetings.
Provide quality counseling for adherence support,
disclosure for PMTCT mothers and adolescents and ART initiation.
Support adolescents transit through the stages of
adolescence smoothly.
The incumbent will also provide home based
counseling and testing as well as support the families living with HIV as and
when required.
Expeditiously follow up HIV positive children and
adolescents for linkage to care, missed appointments and those who are lost to
follow up.
Support HIV counseling and testing at integrated and
immunization outreaches.
Support community interventions and linkage of
children and adolescents to community organizations and OVC services.
Prepare and submit program reports as and when
needed.
Experience:
The applicant should hold a Diploma in nursing from
a recognized institution.
Active registration with the Uganda Nurses and
Midwives council.
Hold an additional certificate in HIV counseling and
testing from a recognized institution. The training should have lasted at least
two weeks
Additional training in Comprehensive HIV/AIDS
management will be an added advantage
At least two to three years’ experience in HIV counseling in a busy clinical HIV/AIDS setting
Good mentorship, counseling and communication skills
Computer literacy skills including proficiency in Microsoft
Word, Excel and PowerPoint
Willingness to travel and provide care services at
selected health facilities and outreaches
Willingness to work and live in rural areas.
