Medical Officer (CMO)
Uganda
South Sudan (UNMISS) was set up in 2011, with the objective to consolidate
peace and security, and help establish conditions for development in the
Republic of South Sudan, with a view to strengthening the capacity of the
Government of South Sudan to govern
effectively and democratically and establish good relations with its neighbours.
Officer will ensure smooth customary work flow of the clinic; supervise clinic
staff and delegate duties to the Senior Nurse; assure readiness for rapid
response to emergency medical conditions and casualties. The incumbent will ensure
preparedness of forward dispatch medical teams with necessary Emergency Kits
for deployment to casualty site; assure availability of consumables (including
blood units) and emergency kit at all times; involve UN designated physicians
in the operation concept of the clinic; liaise with UN aviation officer and UN
Security Coordinator for air evacuation of critical cases to Level-II / III
hospitals or abroad in consultation with the CMO;
following duties:
Undertake day-to-day clinical duties, e.g. walk-in
clinic, emergencies, pre-placement and periodic medical examinations,
immunizations, etc;
Provide health education and participate in
addressing work environment and occupational health issues;
Work closely with UN-Military Medical Units in the
mission and host-nation medical facilities;
Follow the United Nations established policies and
procedures regarding medical clearances;
The incumbent will oversee the day-to-day mission
medical support operations by ensuring availability of supplies and proper
functioning of medical equipment;
Ensure that appropriate training programs are
implemented in order to maintain and develop the medical capabilities (e.g.
health education, HIV/AIDS prevention, first aid and CPR). General;
Work closely with UN-Military Medical Units in the
mission and Government of South Sudan Medical Facilities in the Region;
Deputize for other senior Medical Officers during
absences; and
Perform any other duties as may be required.
Experience:
The applicant should preferably hold an advanced University
Degree in Medicine (Masters or Equivalent).
Additional training and experience in tropical
medicine is highly desirable.
A minimum of five years of progressive clinical
experience in the medical field.
Previous UN medical system/international medical
experience or military medical experience with priority in international tasks
is highly desirable.
Proven ability to apply good judgment in the context
of assignments given.
Excellent organizational skills and ability to
handle work in an efficient and timely manner.
Languages skills: Fluency in
spoken and written English
Professionalism: Ability to
manage medical processes, strong medical records management and ability to
maintain confidentiality of patient records in keeping with Physician/Patient
Privileges.
Client Orientation: Demonstrated
ability to develop and maintain effective work relationships with patients, supervisors
and colleagues
Planning and Organizing: Ability to
plan and organize own work effectively in an efficient and timely manner. Demonstrated ability to establish priorities
quickly in high pressure environment.
Communication: Ability to
write in a clear and concise manner and to communicate effectively orally.
Teamwork: Good
interpersonal skills, ability to work in a multi-cultural, multi-ethnic
environment with sensitivity and respect for diversity. Demonstrated ability to
develop and maintain effective work relationships with supervisors and
colleagues.
